im trying to work out what killed hardcore in 1999? i think that year was definately the turning point, seduction retired, vinylgroover switched to hard house, hixxy started playing trancecore and ramos and billy bunter has already changed their style. im just suprised it happened because there were still prolific producers around like dougal, brisk darren styles etc. if you listen to sets from early in the year its just like 97/98 tunes, whereas by th end of the year the dj's had either packed it in or were playing sped up versions of commercial trance tunes. also, i managed to get hold of a tape pack yesterday which was hardcore heaven space 1999. during seductions set mc storm twice gets john to stop the music so he can deny the rumour that seduction was about to jack it all in, but as far as im aware this was the last event seduction did before he retired? what was that all about? thank god he did come back though!

sedcution did retire, but he came back 2003, just after bonkers revived hardcore again.

Some have said that Hardcore stopped being creative, which I think Scott Brown and the NextGen crew proved very wrong since they produced what I'd call the best hardcore ever.

The music got completely stagnant, much like it is now. A lot of producers stopped making an effort. Scott Brown on the other hand was still producing as Hardcore as good as the likes of 97 stuff etc all the way through that.

I don't think Scott Brown even knew the scene had slowed down. He was just trapped in his bubble (studio) charging on as always : P

yeh, your right. He was in Japan at some point releasing happy hardcore albums without paying the artists a penny back in the uk. Exactly when he was doing this I really don't know but I suppose it explains the years he was missing.

Seduction offered his side of the story on his website in 2003 or so, i don't know if it's still about.

i never knew about any of that! i saw him play an old school set in 2000 and have tapes of him from 2002, again old school so he cant have been in japan that long. i thought since he sold united dance and hardcore heaven he would have had enough cash to retire on? also if he was ripping people off i would imagine a lot of artists/djs/producers/promoters would have boycotted him when h came back in 2003 with uproar, but that didnt happen.

yeh, very true dude. I had a query about the whole seduction thing before & thats what I was told. Mabey he seduced them all into a false sense of security? ok, that was bad.

Obviously theres a lot more to the whole situation than just that but I do remember some producers were seriously pissed off & fights almost broke out at a few events over it.

I love Seduction from his early days & continue to buy his tracks to this day. He's done a hellova lot for the scene but I suppose some people see f**king people over & looking out for themselves as the only way to make it big. I really have no evidence for this. I'm just going on what I was told on here a good while back.

Well not everyone was welcoming to begin with. He also sold his Impact label.

i think 95_was_the_time killed hardcore in 99, in an effort to stop it from changing to its current state ..using a slightly modified DMC-12

I can't really add anything that hasn't been said already but i wouldn't say Hardcore died as such. It just needed a new direction as the music became stale. The same choons being rinsed week in week out. Producers releasing the same sounding tracks while others became fed up with the scene. A new direction was found & Hardcore became as popular if not more popular than it was before.
Hardcore is in need of a new direction now as the same thing is sort of happening again. One thing i hate which needs to stop is producers remixing shitty chart music. Why bother remixing something that was shit to begin with. Lose the guitars & male vocals & i'll be happy.

99 had some good tunes. If you listen to Bonkers 6 it was like the old Bonkers, well known anthems & some rare remixes but Bonkers 7 was much more Trancecore sounding. I think that Trance was becoming huge around the time and everyone wanted a peice of it so really Hardcore moved towards that direction. Trancecore itself was developing into Freeform & the remaining tunes where a far cry from the big tunes of the early part of the decade.

If you listen to the stuff from 2002 you can hear how advanced it had become since 1999.
