raw elements is freeform? they have styles on there all over the place...wish it had more uplift numbers though
you guys should remix poached & scrambled, and what ever happened to lukozade?
poached and scrambled! it's currently on my phone bought it a few months back! i think it should be left alone, but then a small 2010/11 update wouldn't be too bad, as long as it still sounds pretty close to the original
for those of u who don't kno the track, here it is. it starts at about 2:22.

I hate the freeform moniker, it's defined as loosely as a long string of spider's silk whipping around in a category 5 hurricane. Can't we just stick to hardcore? It's a known and defined genre.

There is absolutely nothing that can be done to improve the brilliance of Poached & Scrambled, and even if there could be there wouldn't be given what passes for Hardcore these days. Your crazy to even suggest it Mr K :P

That does sound very nice!! I think 90% of the time what kills something is people calling it dead. If you do something with pianos, uplifting vocals and breakbeats people will be like "Ah that's old skool we don't really do hardcore like that anymore". Erm...didn't realise there was a rulebook! If you keep making good old skool style tracks people WILL want to hear more, then there will be demand, before you know it everyone will be making hardcore with pianos and breakbeat, that isn't going backwards in time that's just forgetting all limitations we place on music ourselves!
In other words Smoogie and co. get out there, start learning how to make tunes, make some amazing "old skool" styled tracks and prove to everyone it's better!!
Download this mix, you will be impressed. It shows that high quality oldskool stuff can still be produced, people just don't bother. Mostly because it's not profitable. The funny thing is that pretty much none of you will have any clue who this dood is.

Absolutely, and if anyone's into 1996 hardcore I'd recommend getting involved in some of the london hardcore pirate radio stations, a lot of the DJs are producing tracks that sound very old skool but have a cleaner, fresher sounding production so you do feel as if you're listening to something new despite the fact nobody would question it if you put it in an old skool set. I'm expecting BIG THINGS from the london underground, brilliant stuff being made with no hard "DVVVVVT" kick and no trancey riffs.
There are people producing the old skool sound in all shapes and forms, just gotta back them and push them!

Thats what I point out. I ask why no one makes tunes with hard kicks and people say hard kicks are dated. So why do people still use basslines or trance rifts? Oh people still like those tunes and there is still demand for them. Ok so i could make a tune with hard kicks and people might like it and there will be demand for it?
The more rules people make the more likley others will come back to break them

In the end, if I had the skill, knowledge and so on I'm sure I could make a hardcore/country music crossover and as long as it was REALLY good people would love it.
Make a rubbish hard kick driven track and nobody will want to know, make a good one and you will see people trying to imitate your sound and before you know it, hardcore has changed again. I'm sure we could nail each change in style of hardcore over the years to 5 tracks that influenced said change.
Listen to music, learn what makes a song catchy and good and then make a hardcore track similar to it in the style you want and I'm sure people will come around to it if you push it out there.

Did anyone catch the old skool show last week on kutskis R1 show? (they did one last year aswell) BDB did a guest mix (last year he did one with Slipmatt) and played proper old skool underground stuff, which even Kutski hadn't heard a few! the interview was good (as last year) into why he played the tracks, and he mentioned how you don't need to play anthems all the time, and the energy of the tracks ect ect, late 90's they all got lazy!
