UK Hardcore is NOT an acceptable name in my opinion.
But on topic, no one seems to call it Happy Hardcore anymore, not nearly as much as they used to.. How can something like DJ Kurt's style be called Happy Hardcore? I think that the correct name is Hardcore. Gabber should be called Gabber. Why shouldn't it be called Gabber when it was always originally called Gabber anyway?
I agree, I tend to call it UK Hardcore, but i have nothing against the name 'Uplifting Hardcore'.

i think you stumbled across the wrong thread. if ur gonna be a miserable old sod all the time, you can stay out of friendly debates that you're not gonna contribute in lol

the gabber debate is fair though... i dont think it is wrong when you have two genres named the same but sound so different... gabber is a suitable name and keeps it seperate from the hardore we know best...
***
the hardcore / happy hardcore debate seems to be to be a opinion based kinda thing.. is there not an official description and verification between the two?
How are th tracks we listen to today happy? Many of them are about drugs, love and kicks/bass/pace/beat and other stuff where you get repeated samples.
eg.. mark smith & al storm - can you feel the pace..... how is there anything that makes it's genre 'happy'? i still love it though.. probably for the fact it isnt happy.

Okay, I haven't read the whole topic now, but usually the people who call UK Hardcore 'Happy Hardcore', are those who watch DJ Cotts' and DJ Ravine's YouTube videos !
The newer stuff is called UK Hardcore or Upfront Hardcore, or just 'Hardcore'. I wouldn't call it Happy Hardcore, because there are tracks that aren't happy.
I call 'Happy Hardcore' the new tunes that include : Piano Riffs, Female Vocals and a Sentimental Melody ( not necesarrily happy .. ). But that's just my point of view, I call it like that, because it's what sounds the most like the stuff from the 90s.

where to begin?..first of all this debate is not NESSISARY but its a lot of FUN, and no one should be getting heated about it lol.
as well: EVERYONE has their own opinion on what the music we all love is called, and why they call it that. that is what makes this topic a bunch of fun, and completely pointless at the same time.
i know people that call it 'UK hardcore' because they think thats the term for newer hardcore not from the 90's. i know people that call it uk hardcore because thats where it origonated. i know people that call it uk hardcore because they think happy hardcore makes they're music sound gay and many more reasons.
i know people that call it happy hardcore because they started listning to it in the 90's and thats just what they call it. i know people that call it happy hardcore because they started listning to it in the 90's and they dont like the newer stuff being called happy hardcore-they call it crap lol, because they feel its different. i know people that call it happy hardcore because even EMO CORE (which ive called it for a while so high five to whoever said that too) has happy synths and melodies and even emo core lyrics are kinda a therapy to sad people, and makes them feel better.
i know people who call it hardcore because its a simple broad term. i know people who call it hardcore because they read uk websites and believe thats what its really called because thats what they call it in the place it started. i know people that call it hardcore because they think uk hardcore is even to soft and makes their favorite music sound gay.
i can go on forever about every different way to say it, but no one would read it. but i call it hardcore because every kind of hardcore minus i suppose makina (which if you dont know what it is will be described as spanish HARDCORE OR gabber (if u live in the uk) still has HARDCORE in the name. uplifting HARDCORE happy HARDCORE uk HARDCORE if u live in canada or north eastern states (the only people i can vouch for although like ive said everyone is different) HARDCORE refering to what im told most britians call gabber is still HARDCORE. so TO ME it makes sense to call it hardcore. euro core emo core trance core...soo many more lol
to my knowladge hardcore rock music is referred to just that-hardcore rock-out side of the hardcore rock scene.
oh and yes every country will have its own spin on things (as far as the name)...no wait. touchy producers or hardcore fans of that country just want recognition for their country (which is toatally valid) but i have also argued that there IS differences to the hardcore MUSIC from each country be it japan, austrailia, england, scotland, canada, or the u.s.a.
uhh ya i think thats all bases coverd but if not thats what the edit button is for lol

It's a forum, the whole point is that people give their views and if you don't like it that's not my problem. Don't ask for someone's opinion then complain when you don't like it. Also there is nothing negative about what i posted.

That's my reasoning for callin. But it is only a name.
How long has the 'UK hardcore' been about?
I find nothing wrong with the labels before: i.e
happy hardcore (German stuff, dutch stuff, scottish stuff...actually...
The German, Dutch and Scottish happy hardcore all had distinctive sounds/ vibes...all this new stuff is just the English versions... All imo of course...

New? English Happy Hardcore existed from 1994 to 1999 so it's nothing new :P The UK had it's own sound as well, definately didn't copy from any other country.

wtf? what's spain doing? =P
anyways, Personally I'd rather call it UK Hardcore than just plain Hardcore, and just like Hard2Get (I presume), I don't really like brits calling everything harder than "UK" Hardcore for Gabber.
UK Hardcore helps defining where the music's from. Well it's quite easy to hear if the music's from UK/US/Aussieland, Holland, Spain or Japan, but the spanish did the right thing to call their music something that doesn't end with -core (Makina/Maquina) :P

Yeah i'd rather call it UK Hardcore, because that's what it is. The rest of Europe has their style of Hardcore and this is ours. It makes bollocks all difference where it originates from, the name reffers to the style so you Aussies and whoever else have nothing to worry about.

interesting, i find that "aus hardcore" sounds practically identical to "uk hardcore"
with the majority sounding like clonecore as a whole :)

It does, that's why it's still UK Hardcore.

Yeah well nobody sounds quite like anybody else. Everyone, even if he/she is from the UK, has a different sound. There's no real difference between the "Aussie" sound and the "UK" sound as far as I can tell, except from where the artists are located.

Hehe, well, i'm afraid you're wrong there ;)
It's not like Australia has a whole new sound, but there are LOTS of artists with sound unike anyone from the UK.
S3RL, Lumin8, Inverse, Orbit1, Colaphize, (to name a few)
I've got some REALLY experimental kinda Hardcore tracks coming up also!
