so, to answer the question of does it upset me to hear people call hardcore techno? no, it does not. there are alot more things in this world to be pissed off about. thats my take on it. Also, to the person who made the comment about punks saying the music that they listen to is called hardcore? that isn't a true statement either.
Punks listen to punk rock, hardcore is a totally different style. maybe in the early 80's it was called hardcore, but thats because bands like Agent Orange, Black Flag, and A Minor Threat were doing music with a much harder edge than say The Ramones and the New York Dolls.
Hardcore punk and Punk rock have never been the same, Hardcore is closer to metal than Punk rock.
Back to topic,
Expecting people to understand all the different subgenres of dance music is lame and expecting people to bow down because you call it Hardcore instead of just plain old Techno is kinda elitest. And to be angry at the mainstream population because they don't know and most likely don't care that it's called anything but is kinda absurd.
I don't mean to sound brash on the issue but you've got to see where everyone else on earth is coming from, lets put it this way, I'm sure most of the younger generation on this forum called it techno before they knew it was called any other name, As I can still remember when Techno was Techno and Hardcore was still made with breakbeats.

actually the main reason that surrounds the fact people get annoyed about people calling it...that, is because of whats associated with the word.
people around here basically use it as a derogatory word.

I think you have metalcore and hardcore music mixed up.
