That's right. Do YOU mix in your bedroom using CD decks? You're so behind the times! AND untalented, in fact I bet you're ALL jealous that you can't mix like this:
Yeah... 1 unused CD deck, M-Audio Trigger Finger, a mainly unused mixer and a macbook.
I'm not kidding, when I heard about people mixing like this I thought it was a bit of a joke blown out of proportion. I see this and I'm thinking "Surely he doesn't do this in front of the big crowds right?
watch the end of the vid...what the hell? Do people really do this? I'm literally bemused at what I'm seeing here, they're all eating this up? What's going on? I'm seeing comments like "SKRILLEX IS GOD" I don't even..
Americans, I know that dubstep has been phasing in and out of your raves over there and some like it and some don't, but can anyone confirm that this stuff actually happens? Does everyone know he's basically not doing anything at all? What? Argh, this is too much I can't even phrase it right. Just everyone add your comments about these videos in the thread.

Check the first vid, he sneakily hits line/phono and then acts like the power is gone?! What the ****? This guy is a joke!

when i worked at the syndicate in blackpool one of the djs used a laptop and he was ****in shiiite.. wouldnt wanna hear him on real vinyl or cd decks...

who cares? the average listener doesnt give a **** about mixing skill anyway. Aslong as it doesn't sound shit they wont think about it.

I just think it's a joke that he's earning massive bucks and can't even be bothered to learn how to mix. In the first video he cuts the music himself and then says to everyone that the power has been cut and pretends he has nothing to do with it.
It's an absolute joke to trick your fans like that. Meanwhile the youtube comments are RIPPING into the guy on the far left simply because he's not dancing. Oh and he claims to not have sold out yet he dumped his original band to hop on the dubstep bandwagon. Normally I would embrace electronic music musicians with varied musical backgrounds but he just seems to be all about the $$$ I'm appauled people are eating all this up and worshiping him like a god while the talented artists get nothing.

If I was working in the engineering industry at one pay rate and got offered another job in the same industry that had potential to earn much more, would I be selling out if I changed jobs? Why does it become selling out when musicians do it?

because you're meant to make music because you love it not because you want the cash

to be honest mate I'm a bit astounded you've used an analogy like that. Are you serious?
EDIT: also there's a big difference between simply shifting genre (which isn't selling out IMO although some people consider it to be doing so) and doing what he did, which is jump on a bandwagon and I never thought I'd see such an obvious example of it in my life. Today has been eyeopening to say the least.

I was with you till this point, do you even know anything about Sonny(skrillex) and From First To Last? What happened and why they split up? He left them after two albums, and he was working on his shit while still in the band. He was out of the band for a good 2 years before anything leaked of him doing dubstep... Shit just happens, its not like he was like "Hurr durr i like mudstep ima leave me band for this", they just wanted to split up.. Are you going to say Matt Good left to do harder music?
One of the main reasons he left was he had surgery and ****ed up his singing...
He also did some mix of electro and rock after he left FFTl and before he made skrillex...
Like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qa2UGKehmxc
Have you ever listened to FFTL, or any of the side bands? They all have been doing some type of EDM for years....
I do wish he would start doing more vocals in his songs..
But you are getting your panties in a bunch over nothing... Look at Deadmau5, Daft Punk, look at any "up there" band/musician, they all do the same shit.. This is like someone getting mad over Beiber.....

********. Complete utter ********. That's the same argument people use to justify file sharing. Hans Zimmer never made nothing for free. Nor did Basil Poledouris. Now, I think Reznor did, but that was a different situation.
If an artist makes excellent music that he can't stand you can bet I wont be getting up to throw stones at him.

Yes. absolutely. If making music is your livelihood, balancing what you do best with what will make most money makes a hell of a lot more sense than making music that get the bills played.

it all depends... producing music to some people is a hobby to some its making a living.... for those that do it as a living of course the direction they go is the direction of the and good on them... this making music for the love of it is bollox if bills or dependants depend on it..

about ten or so years ago, there was all of a sudden a huge building project in dubai. Engineers that were earning 150k or so p.a. suddenly had the opportunity to be earning many millions over there. And many did. In fact, there was a crush to get jobs in dubai and the market for engineers was flooded with people who were "jumping on the bandwagon" and "selling out". No one ever held grudges, other than the fact that they themselves weren't chosen. Nah that selling out crap is rubbish.
