Minimal hardcore has been coming in now quite a bit. DJ's like Gammer and Klubfiller are pushing it with tracks like "Bang Yer Head Off", "Boing" and others. Its also included numerous times in the newest HTID3 album.
What are your thoughts on this style? Reackon it'll have a big influence in the direction of hardcore? Or is it just a phase?

Not a fan! It's OK in very small doses and I think it's a V. interesting way of climaxing a song - by actually taking many sounds away instead of adding more and making it louder. Everyone going mental and then suddenly it dropping into really heavy bass and making everyone stomp. Quite a good feeling but I don't think it should be overdone!

I think it's in hardcore slut by Technikore too, it's that bassy rumbly noise you hear in a lot of gammer songs nowadays! You can hear it in Bassline Road & Slap You Like Bitch by Darren Styles!

Yeah, they normally have a single note bassline and no melody asuch. If they want to ruin a song they have a great freeformy sounding breakdown that drops into.... minimal thump.

is this its official name for this style? b/c everytime i hear minimal anything i always think it's similar to boring shit like this
whatever it's called, a lot of tracks are hit and miss for me. but i don't think it'll b the new direction of hardcore, it'll only be popular amongst a select few djs

I think that it is really good in small doses!! But i can see people walking off the dancefloor if a Dj tried to play a full or even half a set of this minimal stuff, Some of the tracks build up that excitement for something epic to happen then when it drops, your like woahhh but really u wanted it to be a bigger and better hardcore kick n bass rippin up.
But i also do NOT think this is the way for hardcore to go, but in small doses its fine ;)

Gammer is one of the main names pushing it really, and allot of it is going to be on htid3

I actually really like the idea of it and it's something that would definitely get my interest. If Hardcore goes in that direction it would be a good thing because of the nature of the genre, or how it should be. At the tempo it is there isn't a need for very complicated melodies and such it's just about being energetic and 'bangin' as it were, which are easily achieved when things are kept simple. Plus i like minimal approaches to music with more emphasis on the feel.
The fact it interests me is a good sign that most people here won't be liking it.

It's not at all boring though, it's something you either get or you don't, or you either like or you don't.

This is prob 1 thing I dont agree with from a subjective point of view. While I don't care about names like 'UK Hardcore' or whatever really, one thing I DON'T like about it being just "Hardcore" is that the Happy part is dropped. There has been hardly ANY proper Happy Hardcore tunes since about 2001, some of the dougal and gammer stuff was good, but didn't quite hit the mark the same way as Triple J, Vinylgroover, DNA etc. did.
the happy part of happy hardcore is what got me into it, when people say they don't like the "cheesey" (happy) stuff, just "bangin tunes" I really wonder what the point is - if I wanted to just hear hard, fast music I would just listen to gabber or something. Also nowadays hardcore is v. difficult to fit any happy in. Fire & Flames by Brisk and Ham is good, very happy but the kick makes it too hard, it feels like you're being punched and it's not all that danceable to be honest!
Not having a go at you or anything in particular, I've wanted to say this for a while and needed the right opening! So it's not aimed at you! Just at the music in general!

^^^^ I will agree that it seems the happy, sing-a-long element has seem to be dissapearing here lately. It's all becoming male vocals, no vocals, or deep female vocals that are all about emotions and she won't shut up. what got me was how you said the kick was too hard in "Fire & Flames"....I don't think the kick is hard enough. 90s Happy Hardcore had that raw kickdrum that has been absent in most upfront releases. I want the pipe-organ, the piano, the cheesy pitched female vocal, and the raw kickdrums back please!

Maybe too hard is the wrong word?? I think it's not bouncy enough too..."down" if that makes any sense, but great track one of the happier tunes I've heard in a while. A lot of people seem to think that vocal hardcore = happy, it doesn't! I don't know, the Hixxy remix of Set You Free is a good track, but it just lacks the pure happiness of Run to Me by Elogic, vinylgroover's toytown, follow the sun etc. and sometimes I think it's the trancy riffs and kicks that ruin it, they sound too sharp and not 'rounded' like they used to sound. Bit like falling down the stairs as opposed to rolling down a hill.
Dunno what you mean by raw kick, can you provide an example? I really hope we're on the same wavelength because this is the kind of kick I miss!:
The Brisk remix has to be one of my all time favorite tunes of all time, but alas not on youtube! I really envy you guys in North America for having such a happy, brilliant scene in the late 90s especially with the Happy 2B Hardcore CDs which never made it over here. Not sure what it's like over there now but last I heard was that Stompy said there was still a demand for Happy Hardcore hence Forever Hardcore on Mad Panik

lol! quite an analogy to describe modern production.
Ouch!

Well, some people like that! Which is cool, but really it's too chemical for me, too jagged! This is me being very fussy though! Don't get me wrong, I'm not writing everything else off as crap or anything! Keep your eyes peeled on the underground london town scene tho, some very interesting developments going on there bringing back the breakbeats and bringing back the happy sound!
