I'm not a smoker myself but I welcome the ban here in England, to be honest. I don't mind people who smoke as some of my friends do but there's nothing worse than having to breathe someone else's smoke in plus getting that nasty smell on your clothes.

They're gonna have to lock me up because when I needs a smoke, I needs a smoke!
I totally intended on quitting, but not because the government says I have to.
A couple of my close friends have gave up smoking with the help of the patches and I was going to do the same if it worked for them, and it did.
But since our nanny-state is forcing this on us, I feel inclined...no...OBLIGED to defy them.
Tony Blair, you'll have to prize my ciggy out of my cold, dead, yellow-stained hands : )
::EDIT::
Oh yeah, plus the government is always whining about violence in nightclubs.
I can promise that if you've got a room full of people craving a cigerette they'll be fighting before they've even had a drink.
I'm a good example of this, I have always been fairly laid back and not a one to look for trouble, BUT when craving a ciggy I can get pretty nasty and want to punch eveyone who gets in my way.
So if the smoking ban is designed to avoid possible heath issues, the government is in for a BIG shock and casualty departments around the country will be full of people with broken noses because they said "hi" to someone who walked past them.

The government aren't trying to force you to stop smoking... They are protecting the health of those who don't smoke!
I also welcome the ban. I can live with breathing in smoke and stinking of it when I go to pubs, clubs etc. but I'd prefer not to have to.
Only thing that worries me is how badly clubs/raves are gonna stink of BO :S.

I'm all for the ban.
I'm not saying smokers should be treated as second class citizens but it is about time non smokers got some rights too!
Why should i have my health put at risk by others? No more having to avoid certain rooms at work and going home stinking.
Can't come soon enough!

Of course they are, albeit indirectly.

Its been banned here for ages (i'm in sunny scotland) and although i am a smoker (i aint that heavy of a smoker tho) i think it is better that its banned.
for 1 i don't have to constantly be breathing in smoke and i dont smell of smoke so much
but the best thing about the ban is when you at a club and go for a smoke it is simply to pull a bird, no more loud tunes you need to shout over just hit them with the ususal crap then in to there pants alot easier than before IMO

For someone who has recently stopped smoking, the ban cant come soon enough. Hopefully ill be able to enjoy a pint or two with my friends without pinching the odd fag as I probably wont be arsed to go outside.

I can't wait either! I'm all for smokers having the right to smoke, but I am very much for the rights of people that choose not to not having to too. If you want to smoke, go outside for a few minutes, its no biggy. At the moment the equivalent option for non-smokers is to stay outside the whole time

Non smokers dont have a right not to smoke? Bars, clubs etc have the right to make their place non smoking all together, or make non smoking areas. Hell they made a law that smoking areas have to be in those glass "boxes" where smokers can smoke indoors, but without the smoke spreading to the other side. That wasnt good enough, they had to ban drinking there cause apparently, their aim is not to make it possible for non smokers to, well, not smoke. Their aim is to make smoking as difficult as possible. Now that bars / clubs etc started building those glass rooms, before the law would be fully enforced, they ban smoking all together. nice. Going outside sounds great and all, but not all places (clubs especially) let you go out and come back in. Plus you can try going for a quick few minutes outside, in -20C or in rain, not so pleasent. I'm guessing restrooms become the new smoking rooms.
Its discrimination, and not just for the smokers, but for the bar owners too. They cant serve properly over 30% of their customers, and possibly lose a lot of income cause of it.
