I don't think people who damage their bodies by smoking should be entitled to treatment for it on the NHS. Starting now, since the awareness is so good now, if I had my way, anyone born from this point on would not be entitled to help from the NHS for ****ing up their own body. Heathly living should be a lesson at school imo.

So your sayin fat people can't have NHS treatment? Or someone that does an extreme sport and injures themselves? Everyone pays NI so wer'e all entitled to NHS treatment. If they put the tax money from fags back into treating smokers there wouldn't be a problem

As i pointed out before, i'm all for smoking rooms and all that, i'm against the total ban. Also, i have to inhale, everyday, car exhausts. It doesnt only harm my lungs but the whole planet. If someone is too lazy to take a bus or live close to their work place, then i shouldnt pay for the roads, accidents etc. Get my point? We all pay little bit for everything, its like a full insurance, nothing should be excluded.

thats completly different though, im sure that cigarettes.. compared to car fumes, ratio of the damage to health... the damage from smoking is far greater to the body.

Seems the smokers are looking for any excuse to justify why the ban is wrong... we wernt born smokers... smoking isnt natural therefore not a right
the only right smokers can have it where others are not effected.. ie there own home

(pretty wavey point.. but i think the overall message im saying is clear enough)

Ps... one thing at a time... the governement are working on at trying to cut down on car fumes, in an industry that severly outways cigarettes (oil) is going to be MUCH harder than a justified ban on cigarettes

(ops there's the edit button)

I have nothing against people abusing their own bodies through whatever means they wish, I just don't want to be taken down with them.

Banana, they do put the tax from ciggies (and much more) back into the NHS to treat smoking illnesses, both for smokers and passive smokers. Its not just about money though. The NHS is vastly under-resourced. Smokers are a huge burden on the NHS, and any burden that can be lifted has got to be good.

Its not just about the general public. People have to work in the bars. Its not fair that they have to breathe in other people's smoke. And before you come out with the "get another job" argument, sometimes there is no option. Many students are at college/uni all day and have to work at night, some people need a second job and sometimes thats the only job going!

As for the whole car/petrol thing going on, there are huge things going on within industry right now to cut back on pollution. theres new legislation coming in around the world all the time to reduce emmisions and engine/vehicle manufacturers have to meet these goals or their product can't be sold. It won't happen tomorrow, but over time emmissions from cars and trucks will drop as old cars fall to bits, and newer cars take over.

Or to put it bluntly.

I don't give a shit what smokers are doing to themselves, but it's about time they were stopped from doing the same to me!

I ve been wrestling with the smoking issue for a little while. I stopped for quite a while and then things got a bit rough and i turned to them again. Hate it! i hate smoking and i hate to smell of it, and i will stop.....before the ban.

So....i don't care if there is one or not, cos i won't be smoking then :-P

I am a smoker, have been since I was 13 and I still enjoy it barring the scale an polish every year. Here they have a half/half ban. Depends how much food is served and where the main profits come from. Which means we now have returant bars and smoking bars which seems sensible to me. Many bar owners and workers smoke themselves so they are the bars I go too. Some bars do cheat by putting out ash trays until lunch time, take them away until three then put them back out again. However like non-smokers you can tell and who wants to eat in a smelly bar now the others are so clean. I don't agree in a total ban but I do believe there should be smoking houses and bars. Where people who choose to smoke can go and also work in. A suppose a tame version of coffee shops in Holland. I don't want my kids to smoke but ultimately it is the individuals choice which means non-smokers have the right not to be forced into an enviroment they do not like, but smokers should have a social area/places they can go too as long as all are consenting to the practice ( including owners and the whole work force ) JOBS FOR SMOKERS TOGETHER!! Then non-smokers can't complain about fag breaks as we will be all smokers together and get half the work done but would be more interesting cool and yellow coughing flem buckets together. long reign Bill Hicks.
What I really object to is the title 'no smoking in public places'...well what the f**k do the government call outside? I would call it pretty public, Oh and you ex-smokers your all anti-smoking zealots, I think I might give up if it wasn't the fear I would be come one of you.

By the way you are all welcome to come to the StevieC.com and smoke when ever you like.
Strictly on the Bill Hicks page mind.

The Belgians seem to have a good balance there.
I wish Bill Hicks was still alive, he'd fight for smokers rights... and win, hands down!

Ummm... I can't see that being true. Most police forces aren't that size surely?
