What do you think is the future of vinyl in the dj scene?
I ask this question as Technics recently released the best cd deck ever. Instead of a drive where you put it in and close it, you sit it on a platter, like a vinyl sits on top.
The reason i said vinyl will rule forever before was because its the only medium that lets you truly feel & play with the music using your fingertips.
The only thing i dont get is how you can scratch with this deck and get the same pitch you would from a vinyl when cds are played at something like 200rpm (not sure) Wouldnt the sound coming from a scratch be really low?
Personally i would never swap vinyl for anything, especially cds. Maybe if they invented a more resistant vinyl to scratches id upgrade whatever needed upgrading on my 1210s but other than that, i love vinyl :D

Technics cd deck is not that rockin' it just looks cool if you scratch on it or do a spin back , the sound comes out digital and weird.

Thats a good point, me and a friend were talking about this the other day, i personally think vinyl will fade out, people are becoming much more lazy, and cd decks make it easyer to mix, almost with a push of a button basiclly and with stuff like bpm counters about it defeats the love of djing and some even say its pointless, i will buy vinyl for as long as its about, last cd i bought was a long time ago, much butter selection on 12" and you can have much more fun with it!

I can imagine in the future when there will be hundreds of people mixing with their cd players, we will be elite.
As long as people keep buying vinyl they will keep selling it and i buy about 8 - 12 vinyls a week.

when you scratch the cd it's just scracthing information
cd always moves at the same speed.....

I dont think Vinyl will ever really truely die out unless theres an upgrade as mentioned by bodeba.
Think about tapes, obselete really but we still buy all the tape packs, videos have been out done by dvd yet we still buy and rent videos.
two points though.
1. Will people ever use a computer and pcdj to do a live mp3 mix??
2. Minidisk could have been utilised more.

i love vinyl too much too, and i know too many people with cd decks who have given up buying vinyl and are just downloading vinyl RIPs (non-legal). when a CDJ plays an illegally downloaded mp3 nobody is the wiser.
the pionear CDJ1000's mk 2 are much better than the technics though.
vinyl forever :P

Ive got CD decks & Vinyl decks, my cd decks are just sitting there gathering dust, while my vinyl decks get cained about 3 times a week if not more.
For me you just can't beat vinyl.
Sadly tho, i can see the mp3 generation taking over, and the n*bs that you get on forum's and the like will become the next generation of dj's. All of the skill will be taken out of dj-ing and it'll water the effect down, if it hasn't already.

saying all this, it is progress, in like 50 years cd's will be outdated
technology is always advancing and making things become easier which is why it is there to start with, todays news becomes tomorrows past, everything sooner or later becomes out dated and finally replaced completely

I think its been said on the forums before but what I like about vinyl as opposed to CDs is that with vinyls, you know yours was one of only a limited batch.
And also, if I love and tune, I'll get it on vinyl but if I like a tune I would probably get it on CD. My vinyl collection is my most valued posession, it's taken me years to collect some of the tunes I have which I could otherwise download in a couple of days (legally of course).

I have a feeling the next generation of DJ's wont care for vinyl, they will see the vinyl DJ's as oldies and not understand the concept of DJing on vinyl :)
Vinyl sales in general are poor all over now... no label wants to make CD singles because they will just get pirated about 20 times for every one copy sold... probally why commerical labels are now coming into hardcore because they have the ability to sell a truck load and can handle the loss of piracy. Small labels can't handle the piracy, when the difference between breaking even and dumping a lot of cash can be 100 units sold (yes I said 100).
What does that mean? Commerical labels will probally take over with pop trance version of hardcore, milk it and leave again with no smaller / medium labels to continue releasing hardcore.
I'm not saying big commerical labels in hardcore is a bad thing, but if something is not done to increase vinyl sales of smaller and medium labels then they will just die off.... Piracy in hardcore really hurts.

I'm pretty sure vinyl is going to be around for quiet a long time...I really don't see dmc championships having cdj's at them.
cdj's are going to be picked up by a good chunk of wanna be djs who think they can be a superstar just because they have a means to pitch their new p. diddy cd they downloaded off the internet =P

im not a dj myself but i can say that vinyl will never die out. you can use the lastest technology to produce the best mix in the world using cd or any other kinda crap but it wont be the thrill of actually 'touching the music'
