If someone could please tell me the difference between the different styles of Hardcore because I don't really feel I have a style. I just play whatever comes to mind and if it mixes well then thats it. But I know there is something called Trancecore, Freeform, Vocals, Oldskool, Gabber, But I would say my style is totally "freedom house"........

"Does it matter who listens to what?"

I'm the same m8, if a mix sounds good I don't care if one record is hhc and the other D+B, trancecore, hard trance or whatever. I stopped buying and listening to new hardcore in about 1998. When I found this site I was amazed by how many sub genres there are now. I know Gabba has to be above 160BPM or whatever, Trance core (I think is called Freeform now) is trancier than hhc with not many vocals. Old School just means old to me,I don't know what age a tune stops being hhc and becomes old school though. Thats about all I know on the matter. I don't know what all this speedcore and noisecore is about, or any other 'core'.

As long as YOU like something, then listen to it, whatever it happens to be. It doesn't matter.

in my opinion,

oldskool has break beat mostly
happy has flat beat and cheesy vocals. Its dated around 94-97.
trancecore or freeform or nu energy is trancy and has no cheesy vocals
gabba or rotterdam hardcore has unique very hard beat and is faster than freeform
speedcore can be around 300 or even 1000 bpm with gabba beat (mostly)
noisecore isn't a music really... so **** it

I really like trancecore but I think I'd rather have freedom =P

trancecore = acidy hardcore pre '99
freeform = acidy hardcore post '99

Freeform (acidcore) makes heavy use of the TB-303 (acid) sound, that is the main difference. It's also usually abit faster and has more aggressive melodies than Trancecore

Think of it this way:

Trancecore = hardcore trance
Freeform = hardcore NRG (or Nu-NRG)

Or as Ishkur says - if it's hard and driving it's probably freeform, if it's melodic and uplifting its probably trancecore - http://www.di.fm/edmguide/edmguide.html

Though both are interchangeable really and I doubt there is anyone who listens to freeform but doesn't like trancecore or vice versa - the genre names are there just to classify a particular style.

Is that the site with the dodgy definitions?
I'd still rather go by ravers who have been in the scene for years though, and who i know know what's what anyway :) There are plenty of such people here.

I'm with Cheezy!!! Trancecore is hardcore trance (or trancy hardcore) and Freeform is acidcore. By the way, Ishkur is an old skool raver (since the early 90's!!).

no dude...freeform (acidcore) has been around since 96, around 2000-2002 - more epic trance style hardcore (trancy hardcore) has been produced by Breeze and Styles (and even Kev NRG and Sharkey).

Oh, Drop Dead Fred....why do you only have one star??
