this forum doesnt allow special characters, like east european signs and money signs for that matter. silver, time to update that!
anyways, HMV isn't the only onces guilty of selling things for 200% their own price. Most stores does that. and 12 pounds are/where still cheaper than what they go for in sweden

I don't know why people find these markups shocking. The whole point of a business is to make profit so why the hell are they going to sell it to you at their cost? I think marking it a little over twice their cost seems reasonable considering how much more it costs to print cds out nowadays since there is a less demand for them.
I guess no one ever bitches about how their 100+ dollars/quids/euros their chinese-made shoes cost about 1% of that to manufacture. The markup on clothes is even more ludicrous.

They also have to factor in the cost of running the stores, etc.

Yes that too of course, rental, utility bills, employee wages, etc.
It boggles my mind how people can't grasp that concept. Reminds me of how my mom insists she's saving more money on utility bills by going to the laundromat/washateria than washing her clothes at home (and we do have washing machines). I just gave up and let her deal with it. She pays the utilities anyways it's her money lol.

I think standard retail pricing is 240% of cost. I remember reading that somewhere and the stores i've been a store manager at (involving buying stock) that rang to be true.
Clothes are a whole other ballgame. Talking sometimes hundreds of % mark up. Food is no different. Cheeseburger at Mcdonald's cost like 25c to make and it's sold for $2.
And cars? most electronics? Although Sydney is now the 7th most expensive city in the world now - and when i buy online i REALLY start to notice it.

I miss waiting to click the pre-order button for an upcoming Bonkers/Hardcore Nation/etc...and then checking my mail box and there it be! There is an FYE in my mall, but the selection of dance music is ONLY commercial dance. Every now and then, I find a rare gem; I found "The World of Scott Brown" & "The World of Breeze".
I really wish more labels would begin pushing Hardcore albums again THAT ARE DJ MIXED! I'm happy cdjay still gives us HU, and AATW gives us CLXH...but that's it...I hate buying a CD full of unmixed/full length tracks...that's what mp3 stores are for. I want to hear a DJ actually mix!

you folks just dont listen. i said it again and again and again. quit cds. the sooner the better. not are they overpriced and "flat" sounding things, they also have no "personality" for me. get a good hifi system and tapedeck and start recording tapes. it sounds head and sholders above the rest. u all will be shocked, shocked how good sound can be.
