Now, i have a pretty large collection (hello ladies) and admit that i have bought plenty of Vinyl/CD's/MP3's for no other reason than i thought it was a good idea at the time.
BUT! The single biggest reason for unwanted purchases has to be the dreaded RAVE!
After Hyperbolic at the weekend (discounting the number of times Jay and myself cried at the appearance of yet another minimal drop), i have a big list in my head of tunes that i've already started looking out for/purchasing. The sad reality is though, that I already know that at least half of them won't be worth listening to after you take away the environment/atmosphere etc etc...
One other thing i noticed though is the lack of unheard stuff. My topic a while back re: accessibility and overfamiliarity with new stuff was a terrifying sign of things to come. yes, it's great to hear stuff that you know, but the times i looked at somebody and said 'wow, what the F*** is this?' were virtually none. Maybe it's the 20 odd years i've been at it that makes me overanalyse stuff.
I'm not saying it'll stop me buying because despite the fact a lot of producers aren't exactly working their balls off to keep us interested in the music, i still want there to be a 'scene' to be a part of.
So, to sum up...er....I just realised i'm not really making a point as such!

Every rave I've ever been to has featured the same 10 tunes in the main room pretty much so yeah that's always been the case. Apparantly the same tune being played 3 times already does nothing to deter DJ's playing it again.
I wouldn't worry about buying a song you don't like all that much, at least in 10 years time you will remember why you bought it which is kind of just as worthwhile.

Agreed there Matt, more of a concern is all the stuff i've bought for no apparant reason!
At least in 30 years time when i'm in the hardcore old people's home i'll have some decent stories for the grandkids! (but carefully editing out the embarrassing Hyperbolic faceplant story)!

Not really!
Oh, go on then...
I don't quite know why (but i have a feeling it was a combination of heat, laughing gas, Jay's fluorescent green t-shirt and MC Storm), but towards the end of Sy's set i started to feel really ill (bearing in mind this was only 4 hours into a 14 hour rave), so i headed towards the somewhere quieter to cool down.
I managed to get to the corridor where the toilets were....next thing i remember was waking up being carried outside by 3 door staff - who were great by the way (and probably now off sick with back injuries). Just as embarrassing was having to spend the rest of the night in filthy clothes that were covered in god knows what!
The massive bruise appearing on my face took some explaining to the missus i can tell you!

It's ok if you were just really drunk, the funny thing is that the bouncers clearly would have thought you just have too much drugs in you LOL. I've actually be carried out of a rave before once when i was far too drunk, amazingly got back in after too (although not through my own efforts).

I would have love to have gone on that weekend - and was close to doing so, if it wasnt for money i would have been there - it looks like I'll only be making it to one rave this year, which was freeformation - which was completely worth it, so i'm glad it was that one.
I was a little concerned at the DJ list though, it did look as though it was going to be a little too nuskool minimal stuff - drains the fun out of it for me, would have been worth it to clink glasses with you chaps though!

My friends who still go to raves (and are forcing me to go TLI on the 15th of October) always have laughing gas. Is it all the rage now? Is it actually any good? expensive? Or should I stick to my usual rave tradition of a bottle of vodka in the car on the way there and an 8th of speed...?

It's very expensive for what you get mate, might only be 2 quid or so for a balloon and the effects are quite fun but it doesn't last long. Drugs are cheap these days and last much longer!

The stalls have been a feature at a lot of events for years, though i'm not entirely sure of the legality of it!

I know exactly what you mean but don't forget these songs were made for that (for clubbings/raves) and I myself have also often heard tracks at raves where I thought "wow! I need to get this" but the next day when I heard the song on my speakers or headphones... meh! Every song sounds different on each sound system, but in this case it's a bit like using a race car to go to the mall, it wasn't done for that :) even if we like to listen at home.
