yeh, I'm fairly certain I'm right on that track, there is a fairly clean example of it in this mix, http://liveset.org/discussion/47235/hardtrance-the-generator-hard-nrg-vol-5/p1 particularly audible around the 20 min zone at the transition. It could just be the shape of the kick (reverse combined with regular possibly, but it sounds different). If it's not a double kick, it's something percussion, not part of the bass line.

I find happy hardcore to fast to properly hear any effect it would make. that's why it works so well in hard trance where there is already a large focus on the bass line to complement the melody.

Yeah it's not at all effective in Hardcore unless it's done right, the genre is simply too fast and it just sounds like music that's pitched up, much like all recent Hardcore actually.

there used to be a time when happyhard was slower and had a better bass effect e.g. Force & styles old songs
