What really sets apart an 'Amateur' hardcore artist to a Professional' producer/artist?
For example, NaturaTech, a guy who produces classical ' energetic hardcore (myspace.com/naturatech ) and DJ UFO or Scott brown tune?
When does an amateur become a professional artist or producer? or can they reach the professional level?

A pro would have perfect production, ultra clean mixdowns and have the majority of their tracks released on big labels.
An amateur would tend to be someone making music at home just for the fun of it or perhaps learning/hoping to be pro one day.
Semi pro would be somewhere between those.

yeah theres like 3 levels of production.
professional - producers running like businesses. they have the best hardware and software and run labels in a business fashion, investing in gear that furthers their music production. eg kurt, styles..
semi professional - producers who dabble and make money, but dont operate as a business. they get a track on a label and make a bit of money, but dont invest it to make more music asuch. eg, andy vilo, alex bassjunkie etc
amateur - people who make music for fun. they dont make money, rarely get on labels and whose music is of lesser quality. whoever styles will vary more. these guys wont have expensive daws and stuff. eg, naturatech, archefluxx etc

i disagree, plenty of lethal theroy stuff that isnt to a professional standard at all... i've heard plenty of ametuer stuff thats better

There is very very little professional producers in the Hardcore scene. Overall the genre is very amateur, although it's always been that way and in the past was a good thing.

yea, amateurs tend to make the music for the love of it, which generally sounds better. Business professionals are just to strict with their music.
I wouldn't give a shit if a songs professionally done/mastered properly or not. In the end its about the overall quality of the song. You could still use professional equipment, yet produce proper crap. A professional should make something poor and make it sound better. People think to much about what they use instead of how they will use it.

Professional is, as DjTriquatra says: "following an occupation as a means of livelihood or for gain".
But if ure a professional that doesn't have to mean ure an expert.
EXPERT is the one who does the job , lest say, perfectly. And it doesnt matter if hes Professional or Amateur.

To me being pro means making a living off of it. Standards often vary drastically though. I know people that are pro in other scenes who have "made it" producing purely on headphones! The blasphemy!!

hmm, professionals are famous(&have lotsa money,most-likely), and amateur's play for the love of the people. some stuff's good and some stuff sucks.
