Amateur/Professional has nothing to do with quality of their work or equipment used
Professional = someone who does it as a career/job
Amateur = someone who does it as a hobby
I know some amateur producers that were professional in the past.
In order to be successful as a professional producer, you need to maintain a certain level of quality so it's no surprise that their tracks are usually very well engineered.
There's no reason why an amateur couldn't produce tracks to that level or have access to the same equipment though. Many "pro" producers' studios aren't as glamorous as you might think.
