How would you say the hardcore scene has changed from the early 90s?
Musically it's incredibly different, but the fundamentals have stayed the same. In my opinion 20 years on it still has the same vibe

wrong.

^ agreed. 20 years ago, that was 1990. Vibe has totally changed as has the music, there's no breakbeat for a start, the tempo has changed, the way it's produced has changed. Everything has changed. The fundamentals are not the same at all! For a start it used to be happy, but we've lost that too, sad times.

Someone on these forums once said that hardcore has lost it's rave roots and this is so true and the reason why the vibe HAS changed. Has it changed in a good or a bad way? Well, I'm not going to go into that! But you can make up your own minds!

with all due respect to everyone..
in 1990, "NekoShuffle" hadnt been born, and both myself and 95_was_the_time were 6 years old.

lol!
im sure darren knows somewhat what he's talking about like darren styles said "Musically it's incredibly different, but the fundamentals have stayed the same"

Doesn't mean I haven't heard any hardcore from 1990 though =/ and I would assume the same applies to you two too! I would say that fundamentally the hardcore produced in 1996 was very different, let alone 1990 which I believe hardcore was barely established and would be called old skool jungle.

Either way I'm sure darren is just doing his part for the interview, he has an album release coming up very soon and I don't blame him for not wanting to make any statements that may seem slightly outlandish!

aha! but therein lies what i was talking about - darren wasnt talking about the music, infact he said "musically its changed massively"
he was refering to ..."the vibe" - which as he was there in 1990, experiencing it, im sure he knows a great deal about, if in his opinion the "vibe" is still the same...then im willing to believe him, being six years old, i would have had trouble understanding what vibe meant ;)

and indeed, we've all heard hardcore 1990+ i wouldnt suggest otherwise - most people on here have, no matter what our ages, 95 and myself are still stuck in the 90s ;)
:)

Styles

What about the second part of the question - how comes?

Not necessarily disagreeing, just curious to why you think that.

he claims to have passion for hardcore, yet he mocks its image through terrible music. He pushes the names that are tied in with AATW, another example of AATW servants slyly promoting their own franchise.

He's enticed into pussy styles of music and being the hardcore 'pretty boy' of AATW by money, and I dont have any respect for him while he conforms to all this shit.

That freeform track he did was good tho. First decent trak in about 5 years

Sounds like you're the superficial one. If you're bothered about image than this probably isn't the scene for you.

I love you Olly but I have to agree with Jenks here. Hardcore should have no image. Nor should raving, essentially, have an image. You need to get out of your bedroom and out to the parties. I'm not going to act like I'm the be-all-know-all of raving but this is a scene that prides itself on being who you are - whether that's creating music that is commercial and popular or underground and authentic.
