I'm not saying that he makes crap remixes, I like alot of the music from 99-02, but I hate that he's a hypocrite and tells people to not remix him when he is/has remixed alot himself. He should tell people to remix the original tracks (wonder if he'll ever say what originals he's remixed/sampled of) instead of pissing people off

That thread is a list of his rips, not his original tracks. His discography is over 300 titles long and that thread has about 25 tracks in it...So that should tell you.

Plus, how is using a euro acapella considered an unoriginal rip? EVERY other part of "Back & Forth" and "Turn up the music" is original... It's not that much harder to pay a vocalist for an original song than it is to get a euro acapella...

How?

And really, that thread proves my point. Someone mentions how one track sounds like Huggermugger by Vagabond. That's because Vagabond took a bunch of riffs from trance tracks and vocals from euro tracks.

For example, Open the Void's melodic content is a rip of a Jurgen Vries track (and in that case the original is far superior to the Vagabond bootleg).

Here are a few of my favourite Scott Brown tracks that aren't rips:

Commence
Do what ya like
Power of love
Like an angel
Take me up
Why should you live
This is hardcore
Flow
Rock tha beat
Taking Drugs?
Bassline of the century
Code
Fade away
Neck Breaker
The old to the new
Goodbye my friend
Livewired
etc

His remixes are also legendary. He often takes a good chord progression or riff to the next level with some subtle changes. I've always liked his distinct sound (those upward filter sweeps before the first not of a riff, that AKAI sampler pitching sound in his older tracks, that quantized filtering and stuttering on vocal hits, etc.)

For someone to have a sound that distinct to be accused of only stealing stuff and not being able to write riffs is just...hilarious.

You guys are wayyyyyy off on this one. Plus, you could name almost any "top tier" producer and I could name 10 tracks they've ripped.

Dain-Ja you're clearly missing the point here! Of course many artists rip tracks, but they don't run around and talk shit like "wow look at my tracks it's all me who did them look how skilled I am now please **** off and make your own music like me" get it? lol

Neck Breaker's vocal samples are from a hip-hop song... by Dr Dre I think.

I'm aware. I don't think having a sample that says "I'll break your neck" counts as a ripoff...
If you think Neck breaker is a rip of that Dre song, then every single hardcore track ever made is a bootleg.

Many of them do. He's not talking shit. He's basically saying "stop remixing my songs without my permission and uploading your shitty covers online, they make me look bad and they suck anyways". I've already shown you *in this thread* that he releases GOOD remixes of his tracks *sometimes*.

If people that are actually talented remix his tracks he doesn't seem too pissed. Gammer's track Bust was an obvious rip of "Prototype" and I doubt he gave him shit.

I know it isn't... I was just trying to say that Neck Breaker isn't 100% original. :)

I understand your point 100%. Almost all producers are guilty of ripping off though, it's almost obsolete these days, to use an Amen break for example, which in fact is stealing! We "steal" a lot of things with out knowing, but we don't necessarily do it with bad intentions.

But then again, it could be drawn from Scott said that he was being hypocritical, because he's sampled a lot of other sources, I don't agree with what he said here 100%, "Get some talent, make your OWN music, that's how I did it!", because he hasn't done every 100% by himself. But the fact that he's done MOST of it by himself, including melodies and writing some of the biggest Hardcore tracks of time kinda "cancels out" the cheeky rap or sample ripping.

At the end of the day, sample ripping is sample ripping, it's illegal. Whilst i respect Scott Brown for the large magnitude of productions, remixes, and not to mention dedication to the scene, I agree with you Revs with your point, reflecting on the hypocrisy of his statement.

I think it's pretty black and white when it comes to this however - people doing remixes of his tune and stating them as unlicensed remixes or in fact not stating Scott as the original author of the track (whether it be 100% his or not) is just continuing the cycle. Both have done the wrong thing.
