My main concern here is that people are assuming that freeform is so limited.

Surely it can encompass... anything?

Do you have to be on drugs to enjoy UK/Happy hardcore? Some people seem to think so.

What's the difference? If you like something - you like something!

Did it occur to you at any point, that it's just you that dosn't like it? That's all it is lol, your personal taste. It has no connection with the music being good or not. Do you feel the same way about all music you don't like?

People say it for all genres of music that they don't like, which is why i was surprised he said it as if he actually thinks it's anything more than his opinion :P

theres a lot of music I dont like, but I dont think you need drugs to listen to it... I also listen gabber, hardstyle and much more darker music so its not that, and I dont do drugs either...

I say what I say because I think that type of music induces some sort of altered states of consciousness, or you have to be in some sort of trance to create such music...

most freeform tracks remind me a lot of goa and psytrance, with all those weird and bizarre enviroments...

now THAT, I agree with. Freeform can be very psychedelic, especially the music of some Finnish artists like Alek Szahala.

It is not exactly what you said in your first post, though:

I do enjoy...it's just my least favourite form of hardcore.
And I have to be in the mood for it.

Even though I'm not an active drug user I do admit there is an influence from drugs, not just in hardcore but in all kinds of music. even in folk music from various countries you can tell there was at least a bit of alcohol involved.
as for being under the influence for producing or even listening, music is a spiritual experience, imo, and drugs just emphasize that.
