believe me, I have listened many freeform mixes and tracks trying to find tunes I may like, but its soooo hard... every track is more boring than the last one; those damn acid sequences are so over used that are just annoying...
I really can't find anything interesting in most of the tunes, this is what makes me think that you need to be high to actually enjoy this music... and not only when listening but also when producing the tracks, I mean you seriusly need to be wasted to think its good...
I'm sorry if I offend someone, I know its just my point of view, but I had to post about it.

Dont really enjoy freeform either, but have always liked a few tunes. Marc Smith's "Revival" is probably the best ive heard of freeform, its an ace tune.

i have never done drugs, and i absolutly love freeform (i barely even drink, think the last time i drank was creamfields last year, and that was one can of strongbow)
has to be melodious stuff though :) i dont mind the odd "techno'y" track, but as soon as it crosses over into techno or becomes monotonus i start to drift off to bordom (pretty quickly too)
imo musics got to transform, keep moving, and have melody..
i like freeform of the newer variety like
Cube-Hard - Hold The Beat
Ting - Power In the Light
and of course the older variety like
Sharkey - Mind Launch/product of society
Helix - Now Control (amazing synphonic orchestra style melody in the middle :D)
freeform seems to have longer intro's before the melody actually kicks in, so i think alot of people just turn off before it starts, thats what i did with all of sharkeys cds until i actually sat down and listen properly in '98 i think it was sharkeys bonkers 3 mix that turned me to the dark side
but yeah - felt i had to post to just disprove your "have to be on drugs to like it" :)

I don't have to be on drugs to enjoy Freeform either. Alright there are some crappy choons about but it's the same with most genre's.

Too much of a good thing is never a good thing. Try listening to some sets that only use a few Freeform tunes. Anything that you endure for too long becomes tedious. I love me a bit of Freeform but i would struggle to listen to an hour long set of nothing but. Everything in moderation mate, thats what its about.

this is so hhc.com/boards :P
...and Darren Styles sucks!!
there, I just made this thread even more hhc.com/boards'ish
But honestly, why not just accept the fact you don't like it? Why do you need to make a point that it's music for stoned people?

I'm not a freeform fan but sometimes I like to listen to a mix (this also applies to Techno, acid trance) where the particular tunes don't stand out and it becomes like a gradually building and evolving sound. I'm far more familiar with UK Hardcore tracks than Freeform but I'd normally choose to listen to freeform mix (or even better a Hardcore Breaks mix!).
I've never done drugs and have heard people say that to enjoy any form of dance music you need to be on drugs. Obviously they are wrong!

i can't listen to it for long, but i love how it sounds a little darker. the acid thing used in almost every freeform track sounds overused, i'll give you that.
i enjoy listening to it the few times that i do.

It is a known fact that you must be in a pile of drugs to enjoy freeform. I am quite unsure as to what you all are talking about.
