what do you think about "girl" djs?

to me, what that says is "there aren't that many talented girl dj's, but we managed to find a few!"

i personally could care less about the biological plumbing of the person putting on a record/cd and pressing play.

how come nahm doesn't feature the freshest african american talent, or east asian talent?

i realize sex and race are slightly different, but at the same time, why does any of this even matter? an artist is an artist. i realize that female djs aren't that common, but really i never hear of fresh male talent so being featured... why does the word female need to be there?

i just think that in a way it's a little degrading to the ladies. anyone agree, disagree, or inevitably want to attack me for my opinion and maybe take some of this out of context to suit your arguement?

As long as they can mix I think it's great. I don't like seeing girls who get giggs just because they are female. Like this Hard Trance dj I know that's friends with my g'frnd. Every mix sounds like a trainwreck and everyones too nice and keeps going yay and I'm thinking that was crap.
Sc@r seems very talented in the Hardcore scene. Her mixing is sharp as.

i typed a whole thing about this, but it seemed to raciest and sexist so im just going to say this......i think that if a girl is a good dj it brings points to her, makes her look better and seem way more interesting.......

but race nor sex should make you sound any better

used to go see lisa lashes/Anne Savage and Lisa Pin Up almost every weekend back in 2001/02

long as its they are fun and can mix...who cares if they are male or female...

had an ex who was also a DJ, when we split..she got half my vinyl because it was bought whilst we were together, the vinyl collection was shared...
so i guess thats my only problem with them

currently teaching my wife to scratch at the moment

though she doesnt have any real interest in beatmixing (for now)..she just thinks it would be funny to be able to scratch..

"oh ya i can scratch....cant mix for shit though lol"

It obviously doesn't matter what the race, nationality, or even gender of the DJ so long as they have the skills. Now with that being said, female DJs are a rarity (i don't like using girls because that makes it seem like you are talking about the young and bubbly looking ones) and I am sorry to say that yes DJing seems like a sexist business. Females seem to have to work much harder in order to get the respect and attention that easily comes to male DJs.

In the US we have DJ Irene, who has been a DJ since the late 80s. At her highest, she is most known for spinning hard house. And she did it much better than many of the guy DJs. She does electro now, and imo she sucks now. But I don't think that ppl focused on her so much about being a female DJ because she is a lesbian. Also, she was a more masculine looking lesbian. But judging by what she has said in videos and magazines, it doesn't bother her in the least bit that ppl label her as a female DJ than just simply a DJ.

Now there is/was Mistress Barbara. I have her on a documentary from bankrupt label Moonshine saying she hates it when ppl tell her that "you are pretty good for a girl." she also continued to say that when ppl tell her that, she looks at them and just ignores them. she definitely is out to be known as just simply a DJ without the "female" part always shoved in there.

And then there is Nikki Belucci. If you don't know her, she's a female that was doing pornography for 6 months before she started DJing. And she uses this and her femininity to the fullest advantage. She DJs without a bra, just covering the bare minimum of her nipples. It attracts a lot of attention, and I dont think some guys pay attention long enough to see or hear whether she's acutally any good or not.

so me, I personally don't care, but i expect a female DJ should be good and not just rely on the fact that just because she's a female DJ that she deserves more attention for being in a business of predominately males

1 last thing sorry 4 the long post, but is it true that Nikki Belucci was booed off stage at a gig because they found out she was playing a pre-recorded set? i read somewhere that it happened in amsterdam
