Is it good?
How much is it?
Do I need to buy or use anything else with it?
What are its limits?

Thanks

I think its wicked. It works for me. Out of the three big sequencers (sonar, logic, cubase) Its supposed to be the easiest to pick up. That doesnt neccesarily mean that its easy. If you've never used anything like that before then there's always a learning curve.

Its bloody expensive, but these days it seems as if no one pays for anything.

To get the best out of it you will need other stuff. I can only reccomend hardware at the moment as im not really into the whole soft synth thing *yet*.

As for limits, that really depends on how well you know it and your imagination!!

Personally, from your post, i think you need to do a lot more research before you commit to anything. Please dont think that you can pick up cubase and make a tune staright away. Although with software like reason, thats not far off!

if you wanna make a decent tune then you'll need some outboard gear. you won't get anywhere using just general midi

No, you dont NEED anything else. BUT its really hard to make a tune if you cant even get the sounds right.

Cubase mostly tells other things what to do and when eg synths/samplers. the reason why a lot of people think they dont need anything alse is because of the vast amount of plug ins/vst instruments you can get for it.
In this case, cybase still tells them what to do and when, its just that the stuff its speaking to is inside your computer.

Trust me i used to think exactly the same as you and i was *really* wrong.

well then northants you are a complete amatuar.
dance ejay is too easy, your tunes are just ready made samples thrown together to apparently 'make' a good tune. Fruity loops isn't all that hard either. Music 2000 is for fun only. end.
As for skies' question
I havn't used cubase myself but ive heard its really good. u'll probably need a midi keyboard at least to trigger sounds in the right place.

Yeah those programs are a bit naff. When youu've finished a tune on them you never gat the feeling that itsa really "yours". But, on the flip side, they can be a good introduction to bigger things. I started off on dance ejay, played with it for 2 weeks then got cubase VST. In retrospect i think it would have been better to have worked my way up as opposed to going from one extreme to the other. There's lots to be learned along the way.

i started off on music 2000,some of the tunes i made on there sounded crap but had lots of potential,so i remixed a few with cubase and they sound so much better.

this MAY or MAY NOT work but i got one tune that started on music 2000,remixed on cubase,on some webspace, but it's geocities and you might need a username and password, but hey it's worth a try

Just a quick note, to all those whom were talking about this Cubase thing, I've put it on the FTP, it can be found here: *edit*

I don't know if it work's or not as I've not tried it yet. But there if you want it.
