Okay i must have bored my friends over the last 10years or so telling them about how Happy Hardcore is going to be the next big thing similar to Brit Pop, Grunge etc., they all laughed and still do. Were in our 30's now, but am I now going to be able to sit back and go into smug mode? Is Hardcore finally about to break the commercial charts unwatered ? If so.......about fricking time.

Im all for hardcore being a commercial success because there are alot of artists who deserve it. These guys have done alot for hardcore right through it's not so popular era and now possibly have a chance to be rewarded for it.
There are plenty of talented guys AND girls who could have left hardcore for more profitable genres of music but, instead they stuck around and have brought us alot of good music and have promoted the scene in a respectable way. (Brisk on galaxy comes to mind)
Off course if hardcore goes on to be a truly commercial success, ie: an alternative to pop, not unlike how trance/dance used to be in the late 90's, that could bring with it some problems.
Our true undergound hardcore scene could be watered down (alot more than clubland x-treme) by manufactured commercial artists playing what would be no more than pop/euro dance at hardcore speed and, who are looking to just cash in.
Providing hardcore artists don't get giddy with fame and sell out, forgetting about the underground scene, I can see this being nothing but a good thing.

does this mean we can laugh our asses to Trixxy and Vinylgroover now?
even if they did leave Hardcore for House (I cant stop laugh actually, house is so fcuking boring), they could atleast produce Hardcore from time to time. I wonder if they'll jumpo onto the vagon now that alot of scouse-house artists seems to produce Hardcore aswell

Is Hardcore going to go mainstream?
Its already happened once. SL2, Prodigy etc in the early 90's.
Most dance music that goes mainstream because somebody 'discovers' a track with crossover appeal and promotes it as the next big thing. For a brief period reasonable credible tunes hit the mainstream but then the bandwagon jumpers turn up, produce some watered down/cheesy tracks and put everybody off. It happened with Old Skool hardcore in the 90's and Trance late 90's early 2000.

I Hope not...
No chance of underground & unsigned artists like myself and future genaractions getting a slice of the action!
Well, then again. with me its all about helping the promoting facktor!
I love getting people intressed and moving things forward!
If it was commercail i'd have no fun working on masterpeaces! i may aswell just sling together a few blits and bobs and call it a hardcore track!
Simples sells, and its stuff like that, that is more likly to go commercail!
and for me, i just don't do simple! its too boring!
If hardcore was mainstream... there wouldn't be a scene!
It would just get pissed all over and abused by all the big boys calling the shots!
The media calling upon "whats hot in the clubs at the moment!"
At the moment, that genre would be funky house, and you can see how boring that is by just a few listens!
I even tryed working with some for one label! they turned it down lmao - wayyyy to complecated! - can't blame me for trying to spice a dull genre up though :)
and thats not just a scene but an indestry on a whole, that i DO NOT want to be part of! If hardcore was ever to make it bigtime!

I've been waiting for hardcore to go commercial for a long time.
I wanna be able to go up the club and "really" enjoy the music being played.
I'm all for it going commercial and I beleive it's already started with the release of alot more hardcore albums. You couldn't buy a hardcore album in HMV or see adverts for them on TV this time 2 years ago.

Reading your post title i thought 'it has already'.
However- unwatered down hardcore in the charts i cant see it happening- (cilit bang joke release doesnt count)
going back to the 'it has already'- the scene already sadly has all the hallmarks of commercial pop- everything works on the lowest common denominator principle- dumbing down. It must have a kick, off beat bass, snare on second and forth beat and a vocal to sell well. Repeating known tricks to get money- keep your eyes peeled for the hardcore music terror christmas release, Donny Osmond is holding a hostage until it gets to number one in a chart in his head! Anyway, if the above makes you angry, please chalenge what i am saying- hardcore works like the pop industry now- thats something the other posters are warning about.

Welcome to the forums, my username is Smoogie (also know ans Smooge or The Smooge) *shakes hand* and I am one of the most known memeber on the forums for my veiws on Happy Hardcore and Bouncy Techno.
Today I have started a new topic on weather Drum and Bass will take overt Hardcore as I personaly feel that all this polished Upfront UK Hardcore is stale and is too slow. I also like Hardocre with Hard beats and like stuff from the year 1996!

Half of me wants to see hardcore hit the charts so our producers can show the amateur 'Bouncy House' Producers, Alex K aside, how to make real dance music. Don't Get me wrong i like bouncy, but only for about an hour, after that the same bassline tune after tune begins to bore me to death.
Saying that though half of me doesn't want hardcore to hit the charts coz a lot of what hardcore is comes from it's underground roots. however it would be nice to show all the scally's how dance music is really meant to sound.

Sorry for not challenging you cos i agree!
Hardcore is how it is at the moment because it's what works for the present audience. I'm the first to admit i love a good old fashioned, full on cheesefest, but i'm also prepared to look deeper into the music (as quite a few others are).
I'm sure you'll know from experience that it's all well and good people saying 'yeah CLSM are really great, keep doing what you're doing etc etc', and from what i can see you've stuck to your principles over the years while still being able to provide us with something different - but it's still important to retain some kind of integrity while appealing to as many people as possible. Other artists have different agendas though, and dare i say it *shock*, many of them WANT to make more 'pop' sounding tunes. So, i'm all for hardcore being successful - as long as it doesn't affect the future of the more creative side of things.
Seeing Styles singing on the telly would be great - after all, he's just one part of a decent sized scene that i'm sure can cope with a few dodgy comments/headlines.

Well 5 years on i didn't really explode did it but hey Mr Styles finally got a top 5 album (thoroughly deserved too, legend in my eyes from the early 90's till now).
Hardcore still moves quietly along popping up now and again (not as frequent as i used to hear about it but that is maybe because i am always working and now have a family - my decks havent been touched in nearly a year, sad times)
Still waiting for the 'eclipse' to be rebuilt also.... ha ha ha!!

Good on darren styles too IMO I love his force and styles stuff so much more but he's from a very pure musical background and started off doing the blues so I'm glad we have people like that in the scene.
The problem IMO with happy hardcore is that it lost the happy. I know we went trancey synths and stuff in the 2000s but there was some happy Dougal and Gammer stuff and Technikore too so while I don't like the new kicks and stuff over the old ones it had a summery sound and it was nice like that, it was cheerful and uplifting. Now it's far more hard edged and depressing, and the reason why is because hardcore wanted to get more street-cred basically and be more cool, but in my opinion considering it's "HAPPY Hardcore" I don't see why we need to be 'cool'. It's a cheesy genre of music through and through we need to take pride in that, not hide it away. There are loads of dark electronic music genres yet a tiny amount of happy ones, it's such a shame.
I'm moaning a lot tonight, it is one of those nights for me. Just sucks so much when you look at your music library and the only stuff you enjoy was made about 10 years ago.
