longggg story short, came in from inside out early sundaymorning, dropped laptop flat on floor...its dead.

wondering :

where is really the cheapest place to get a good laptop?

what is really the best processor to go for (gaming and music producing): amd, intel,or even dual core-ness

is there anywhere does cheap dualcore notebooks yet?

i can salvage the 2 256ram chips from mine, and theres a 1gb one at my work i may get,

so...really just wondering where is the down right cheapest place to go for a laptop with over a 2.6ghz (roughly) processor...of the best description (amd, intel, dual core of either)

please help....im lost.

yup i think you might be in luck with a cheap fix. even if not, processors and hard drives are only like £100 a piece so it isnt goin to be mega expensive to fix

amd processors are supposed to be best for gaming (and most other things actually)

dual core isnt really much of an advantage atm, but once games come out that are designed to run on a dualcore processor they will be awsome

i can recomend www.meshcomputers.com for prebuilt computer

would just ask someone who goes zippy mate, in the cue or whatever if its one of the main crowd pleasers they'll no what it is.

Back when i used to go the main tunes were Yves Deruyter "Back to earth" and Svenson and gielen "twisted" but im sure thats changed by now.

absolutely loved that night, best club night in glasgow and the music is tip top. Next time im coming up will try and make it coincide with either inside out or one of my mates raves. Not been up since new year and miss the place, just got loads to sort out at minute but defo in summer sometime

Attach an external monitor and check. From a regular PC, just taking a 5x2mm jumper off, makes the whole PC not work. If i were you, id investigate it a bit before buying a new one. Dont you have any friends that know about computers?

I'm assuming your uni has a technical IT office so go along and ask them to diagnose your laptop for you, theyll do it for free probably.

sounds more like a connection has come loose than your laptop is broken. just get someone that knows to check it out. if it can't be fixed you should still be able to save the hard drive so you still have your files, just whip it out off that one and stick it in the new one you get. you should be able to salvage most of it. for gaming it depends on what you need. if you want to play the newest games coming out soon, well then 2.6-3 GHz is minimum and a graphics card with pixel shader 3 rendering will be needed for any games within the next year. dual core processors are very pricey at the moment, give them 6-12 months and they will have plumeted in price. AMD processors are best for just general gaming and fannying about. personally if you don't have to get a laptop i'd get a desktop, alot cheaper.

hope that helped zippy

its 64bit that isnt much use at the moment, most programs can use the dual core functionality even if not speficially designed to. there are programs out there that have dual core in mind - like Adobe Premier Pro, and other adobe products

you can still probably save your data, grab yourself an external hard drive enclosure, and a 2.5IDE > 3.5 converter

put your laptop hard drive into the enclosure using this....then plug it in via usb to a pc.....pull your data off

we have to do this all the time at work

alternativly - just use the converter and plug it straight into one of the IDE's in your home pc....saves not having to buy an enclosure...but doesnt always recognise as well in the pc, either way, unless your hard drive is clicking - its probably all still there
