Hi, I am looking to buy turntables, but im not sure what to get in my price range. I can spend around $500 or $250 for each. If you guys could make some suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it.

www.pssl.com is a good spot for people starting out. Go look there if your in the us. Try Technics, there a lil overrated in my point of view but can be top of the line. Stanton? Numark? Find what fits your needs best. Let me know what you come up with and you can ask for anymore tips, feel free!

Numark just released the TT 500's. they're like the top model TT X1's but without the LED pitch screen. My friend got one on eBay for $230 US...check it out...

don't buy anything less than a direct drive. if you've got the money you may as well buy the 1210 m5g's.
i'd recomend buying technics due to the fact i don't think i've ever been to a party that had tables that weren't 12's.

I have to disagree there. The MK5's are the most atrocious value for money on the market. I really can't see any reason to buy one when the competition are offering vastly superior decks. Also switching between different types of decks is really easy. Yeah the technics may feel a bit weak when compared to numarks and the tracking isn't as good as the numarks or vestax but it's not so bad that you can't work with it.
You may as well get the Numarks. They're an awsome deck! The motors in the TT500 have even more torque than the flagship TTX-1's. 4.5kg compared to 3.7kg. Technics only make around 2kg.

Well i think it does make a bit of a difference as they just feel nicer to use but i guess thats justa case of getting used to

Friend of mine describing the torque on his new turntables (I forget the brand):
"I swear man, if you sit on the platter with the needle up your arse, it'd have you spinning at 33rpm."

Il agree with that. Because the platter will be slowed down less wehn you touch the rewcord. EAsier to make small adjustments :)

That's crap... how the hell are you suppose to slow down the record?
The only thing I could see this useful for is HipHop, scratching and mixing where you just cut over to the next record with out a beat match and you want a start button that is simular to a play button on a CD player.
Torque aint that important for beat mixing.

^^^ Nah it's cool... goto the shop and buy what you feel is best for you... if you like a turntable who's motor could drive your car up Mt Fuji then it's cool.

Er well slipmatts allow you to manipulate the record. The extra torque means it returns the deck to speed quicker. This allows better judgement of slowing down and speeding up.

I slow the record by touching the sides of the plator and not the record itself.

Thats why its all down to what feels best for you. I personally slow the record down by touching the platter too and i find that easier to do on my numarks than i did with less torque. But that me :) . Speeding up the record i usually do touch the record but i tend to lean towards always trying to slow the quicker one down a s i find this mnore controlable
