I've talked to a lot of people and I've found that dj's tends to latch on to a particular brand, even some to a particular model of that brand, and become immovable to change. What I need is a good mixer at medium cost (around $400 canadian) but just some good suggestions of what to get for the beginner and on into the intermediate level. If someone posts a mixer and you agree that it's a good one to begin with, please write that there suggestion was good and hopefully this way I can avoid being given posts for 6 different mixers with everyone crapping on what not to get.
Thanks
A friend for life

Because gemini builds pure crap? Go with a low-level stanton or numark, I like them better than gemini, although they still ain't vestax.

If you can afford it get a vestax... But I had no idea they were like 3 times the price of other mixers outside Japan... I went to Canada and a mixer that costs like 200 dollars in Japan cost 1200 in Canada.

Actually the PS-626 is a f*ckin solid mixer. It'll do everything you need until you could afford to upgrade to a nice expensive Pioneer/Rane/Vestax mixer. I've had mine for nearly 2 years and never had a complaint.

allen and heath, rane and pioneer mixers seem to industry standard, but vestax are beasts, specially for all ur scratchin. But numarks are shit, faders terrible quality, gemini i'v never used, stantons are mint,
if u got the money, pioneer djm600,
if not,
behringer djx700
in my opinion

^^^ I have the very basic Behringer model, and its pretty good... very good value for money. Alot of people don't rate Behringer coz they produce "value" equipment, but the mixers seem pretty good. The effects units they make are a bit pants (I have demoted mine to monitoring duties), but I can recommend behringer mixers if you want good value.
Other mixer I don't know as I havn't tried any others out.

The behringer cross fader to be was totally wrong, it did not give 50% per channel when I was mixing two records and the cross fader was at 50%. Plus it was not adjustable, well at least the one I was using.
Just last weekend I DJed a club, they said to me what mixer you want. They were all new top of the range Stanton or Behringer or Vestax, I choose Vestax... just goto a DJ shop and listen to the sound difference, you will find Vestax sound so much better.

^^^ You have no idea what the hell you're talking about. I've thrashed the faders on this mixer (cross & linear) for 2 years and it still sounds as good as the day I took it out of the box. People are right, Numarks DO have sketchy faders, they just don't feel stable, but the ones on my Gemini are good to take lots of beatings. Find one at a store and try it, you'll see. I have no need to BS you, but he's just looking for some advice.
Allniter: If you have the cash I would agree with Tricky's pick, that's what I plan on upgrading to. It's a little more than $400 canadian I think, but not too much.

All faders die on mixers such is the nature of a mixer... I have gone through 3 cross faders in 5 years all on vestax... expect to buy them.
