Nice work.

As as suggestion to try out: i think the buildup, especially after the first kicks come in would benefit from an alternating bass. You can e.g. bring it in/out with a HP filter.

To everyone who was interested in the track, it was supposed to be released on D-Luc-D's Touitsu but I think he's struggling to find the time and contributors to work on the label.

I'm going to put it out for free but it's still unmastered. I'm hoping to get it mastered by someone who actually knows what they're doing, which would make it my first properly mastered track.

Here's a clip of the finished track with a hard limiter:

I think it sounds great! If it makes you feel better, I'm one of those freaks who prefers the sound of unmastered tracks.

Thank you mate. :)

I recently compared hardcore to about 12 other genres (including several dance and rave genres) and couldn't find a single one that uses compression in mastering as heavily as we do. I've come to the conclusion that we're just pushing things way too far (actually I came to that conclusion a long time ago -- do you remember this thread?.

I'm currently going through my previous tracks and actually reducing the compression on them so I can re-upload better versions as part of my effort to mix and master all my dozen or so tracks so far. The problem I have is that my composition is far better than my engineering ability so I've got some unpolished diamonds laying around.

Anyway, enough rambling. Thanks for the kind words!

Just like "Good arrangements mix themselves" I think "Good mixes Master themselves", or at least eliminate drastic decision making in terms of sound coloration.

a lot of mastering engineers say that you should find someone else to master your work if you're doing your own mixdowns. why? because due to the familiarity gained through the constant exposure to what you?re working on, an objective point of view can be, and is usually, lost.

In trusting an outside set of ears, a lot can be learned.

Wise words. This is exactly why I PM'd you. I was hoping to enlist your help to have a listen over a few things for me and hopefully master them if you're up for it.

Thanks for replying to my PM btw. I haven't even found the project file for the track in this thread so I haven't replied yet! I know I have it, it's just buried in a folder of 100 flps with names like "untitled_2.flp" and "llllllll.flp". I'm so shit at organising my projects. :D

It looks like you took it off soundcloud. How much of a bribe to get the delicious unmastered version? I'll give you anything your body desires.

Your post made my day!

I wasn't planning to release the track until I've had it mastered properly but I'll upload the special Advather version just for you. :)

Check your PMs!

I might see if D-Luc-D wants to do a whole EP just for me on Touitsu with Allie, I Haven't Forgotten You, Arpstorm and a couple of my other new tracks on it. Allie is the track from this thread, I Haven't Forgotten You is a freeform track that I just finished last night and Arpstorm is some 200bpm thing inspired by J-core that would work really well on the label. With proper mixing and mastering, I could put out a great EP I reckon.

I'm also in the process of editing, remixing (with some help) and remastering (with a lot of help) my entire back-catalogue so that the tunes are all mixable and enjoyable. I've always been able to throw together good compositions right from day one but I absolutely sucked at the engineering part when I started about 18 months ago. I still suck now but at least I suck slightly less. I owe Starstruck from AWF a huge debt of gratitude for encouraging me to stick with it when I got frustrated with engineering otherwise I would've given up immediately.

I named the first track I ever made after him:

I reckon it's a cool track but the mixing is atrocious.

Anyway, enough rambling (I'm high as a kite right now). Here are some of my other new tracks.

This is the freeform track:

And some of my other WIPs:
