Hey guys. Just seen this in my mail. wanted to know what you think of this. Do you see hardcore going down this "stems" route for djing? I myself feel like a less-is-more kind of person, as of late, but I feel this is gonna influence hardcore eventually. Thoughts?

I think you're talking about eight-track? I myself had a couple of tascam portastudios ages ago, which was a similar concept, technologically speaking.

I guess it would be fun if you can't come up with anything yourself.

I can't personally see it catching on. I might be missing a few points but it seems too impractical to catch on on a wide scale.
It does seem like fun though.

As a producer this would have lots of uses. As a DJ, not really

yeah. I can totally see people devoting themselves to creating stems for money, though. not that I'm against capitalism but the thought of what that will be like in an already flooded market of singles is pretty crazy.

yes on the producer bit, obviously. Though what I've perceieved from the other dj'ing scenes apart from hardcore, It seems fitting. I've actually started to think we as a scene are different. As though some principles of music making and performing don't apply like in other styles.

You never know, it might inspire more creativity due to using sounds that people might otherwise not use, resulting in a more original sound (ironically).

Eh? Have I read the article wrong...surely it's the other way around
The only workflow difference for a producer would be to select which parts of your song will go into which one of the 4 stems when you export...then the main use of these would be for the DJ at the other end to get creative "in the mix" being able to select different stems to use during the mix. Once you're in time you'd be able to literally swap out the bass from one song, to another etc etc as you mix.
so you'd go from "mixing" frequency's which is what everyone's been doing up until now.....to "weaving" the songs together! :)
that'd be at least one use for "Stems"
like killswitches for bass/mid/trebles...only for entire sections of the song.
of course, producers will be salivating as it means that any song in stem format mean's that you automatically have the acapella. (which could put other producers off exporting to stem in the first place!)

digital sequencers are multi track, if you have the project file you can export the multitrack stems

depends if you mash it up, when DJ'in sometimes there are parts of a tune that don't sound quite right when mixing, with stems that wont be a problem, you could get a mix to sound flawless.
did see someone on facebook say this was an April fool???
