I know it's no secret that there was a big scam going on with Facebook in regards to 'Advertisements'.
I'm just finding the whole thing a bit odd considering its a site connecting people and to think are a billion dollar company.

Just seen this post from 'Darwin', after 18 hours.

I remember either Jon or Gaz purchased some sort of crap where their posts on the HU page would reach a certain audience in the UK. Instead Facebook kept promoting the posts in 3rd world countries in the middle of nowhere and they received a ton of likes that were worthless. They stopped using that service immediately.

Unfortunately its very difficult to get people on your page unless other people link people to you, or you link people from soundcloud or youtube. Im working hard to get a bit of momentum on mine but its quite fruitless, which is a shame because Im quite active with interesting posts (such as images and design work)

does this count the same thing with your personal profile and the followers you have? I know that you won't see everything that all of your friends post unless you actually change your own settings to seeing all instead of seeing posts from those you only communicate on a regular basis.

I'm not seeing much of a difference to be honest.

Facebook has always had a paid advertising service. What, you think those ads were placed there by good will? No. I personally have adblock so i don't ever see any ads on facebook or youtube (for the latter, including ads before videos) but i havent noticed a drop in posts from companies i've liked on facebook. I get at LEAST one a day from the ones i've followed. I'm okay with one a day. The Memes haven't slowed down at all though so i don't know wtf that article is going on about.

Coincidently, what was the massive "scam"? Fortune 500 companies are rarely involved in "scams" because it's all over the news and they have to face ethical boards for that kind of thing. They're heavily regulated.

Coincidently, in regards to "likes" being useless - they're all useless and if your business relies on "likes" you're going to go out of business quick smart.

No, HU's business model does not rely on "likes" but "sales". And i'd bet dollars to donuts if they're smart they'd know the percentage of likes that equal sales of their product. Facebook might not provide the best way to reach a NEW audience for EVENTS (if we're talking about HU events - i'm not even sure HU is affiliated with or has its own event company - doubt it) but it NEVER has been. It was an extra way, sure, but I never noticed before studying my entertainment business degree HOW many events/event companies actually fail. It's a lot. And it's always the ones that use social media as the only exposure to their product.

This is a long post but for someone who owns an event company, has been involved in the admin of a very successful hardcore brand (AWF) and is finishing a degree at a prestigious private college of which is solely focused on the entertainment industry none of this is revealing news. For anyone who knows business knows, Facebook's product has never been ads - if you're on facebook YOU are the product and YOU are sold to companies who want to advertise.

Spot on. It makes me laugh when I see so many people especially within hardcore state, we have 15000 likes and 19000 followers. WOW, the percentage of any of those people buying your product is so low. It is about, out of social media advertising that increases sales, hitting a already target audience and not branching out further is NOT right. The need to pick up NEW interest is vital. If I just plugged so to speak my business just on social media I would have to let go the 26 people I employ. Facebook to me = total crap, a platform for people to show off what they actually do not have, that is all that site is for imo anyway.

In HU's case, I somehow don't think they really care about the amount of likes, but that their followers see their posts. :P They're going to want to promote their new releases to people who care.
It's kind of the whole point, you like a page to keep up with their posts, and obviously if Facebook is limiting how many followers see these posts then whatever page isn't reaching their audience. Then if they're told to pay to reach the rest of their audience, but instead reach thousands of random fake Philippino or Egyptian accounts, it's really a scam. :P
This is going to bite ****erberg right in the arse when nobody is using pages on Facebook and they all move to Twitter or whatever.
