I also know a few guys into the hip-hop scene that still use tapes for the "old school feel". Which is fair enough, if you want authenticity what with the Technics and vinyl and that, but it is a bit silly I think - tape was the best we had back then, you'd probably have killed for a CD recorder back then. It's not like the difference between vinyl & CD decks where it's a totally different feel. Tapes were for recording and playing back.

To be honest i really do enjoy listening to Hardcore on tape. Also Trance. It just sounds nice. But it has to be recorded well. I'd rather listen to a tape of a live Hardcore set than a CD or mp3, again providing it is a good recording. What it lacks in high end it gains in low end. Which is important for Hardcore. Although virtually no one here would agree with me.

I've always loved listening to live hardcore on tape rather then CD, there's something about that quality, although there may be a bit of nostalgia kicking in as well. I never bought CD packs when they first came about (the CD packs actually cost more then their tape equivalents - God only knows how a tape was cheaper to produce even back then) as something just didn't seem 'right', CDs were for studio mixes and albums, tapes were for rave recordings, a dated format exclusive to us (tapes, not raves...)
I have a few tape packs, mostly Slammin' Vinyl ones from the early 2000s, where the quality of the recording is utterly horrible, or there was obviously a wire loose or something, how they got away with that is beyond me. I have one where only one single tape is bearable, the others are just too buggered.
