Makina isn't dead in Spain and is alive and kicking in NE England! 1 event runs in Spain I know of at the minute, and another is starting up soon.
Invi and Pucho run Makinarium https://www.facebook.com/groups/544106952292007/?fref=ts and Mirakle Records (still producing makina) start Turbulence soon https://www.facebook.com/events/356469854486252/ Also there is a huge new and old makina scene in England with loads of big and small events, Hangar 13, Clash of the Titans and Tribal Church are the bigger ones. Plus there are lotsof fresh uk producers, the Monta Musica label probs being the main one currently releasing. Makina is fun to mix (long mixes possible) as not as complex and has less structure variation than uk hardcore and is bouncy as hell :-) I used to play it all the time but now more into uk core. Think my favourite tune is Dimensional just for the kick off after the 1st breakdown (when you can still be mixing) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ykfLBN490Y

In my mind makina is (at the moment) evolving or merging to freeform and hardtrance. Sure there will be producers who are doing oldskool makina tunes.
