I bought their first two haha. And yes it was proper cheese, but I actually thought it was all very well produced. Also like some of their stuff they have done after this. A bit different from what we have known them for, but still very well made.

What makes it special is that it is very well produced.

This takes me back to underage drinking in townie clubs at college. Such fun happy and senseless music. :D

Well I am unable to have a look at your link, but I must confess I liked and bought Aqua's first album (and I still listen to it). It was the only Electronic Music I've heard being played by American radion stations in the 90's.
My personal favorite track is "Roses Are Red".

Were you living in the US at the time or something? Because it was definitely not the only electronic music playing in the US. It probably did depend on your location though. For a Houston station at a time when we had 3 country music stations, we had a decent share of La Bouche, Vengaboys, Le Click, and others here and there.

Yeah - there was hardly any played where I lived. My first exposure was through friends in college and then finally getting into clubs when I was 18 (err ...23?). Barbie girl, mambo #5, a couple venga boys tracks and ace of base were pretty much the only "electronic" tracks on the radio.

Yeah, I've had lived in the U.S. between 1995-1997 in the NYC-area. I was 11 years old when my family relocated, but the Electronic Music was such a no-go-area for non-European people. Black people listened to Hip-Hop/R&B, white people listened to Grunge, racists to Country/Western. Screw all of them!

Well being in NYC a large city like that had to have radio stations that were playing them. Maybe it was certain times of the day, like after 10pm on weekends. They would always broadcast a DJ's set live on Saturday night from the club he played. I think they still do that, although it's nothing but hip hop shit that gets played.
