Hrmm, currently my favorite is the Jupiter 6 Europa. It totally rocks. Random patch generator and full MIDI control on pure analog synth that can blast 42 VCO's on 1 key press... yummy! After that it's the Virus line, they are all amazing, small, easy to use, and sound great.

Definentely the Oberheim Xpander, the Virus Kb/Kc (practically the same).
Although an Xpander might cost you heaps of cash, and they're unreliable (unless you're me, and you can repair, and get parts easily) its well worth it, SUPER bass sounds, super filters and super modulation possibilities.
Samplers - Kurzweil K2000 for those really grungy, industrial style string sounds, Emu E4/E6400 for multipurpose excellence.
FX/stomp boxes - Sherman Filterbank, Moogerfooger Mf101/102 (ring mod, lowpass filter)

Gotta agree with the 303 ;) Only reason I read this post was to reply that I loooooove the 303. You just can't beat it through a distortion filter... mmm... yum.
For that reason, though, the novation bassstation is quite nice... and any 303 emulators (rebirth...)

If you can find a working TB303 (only 18,000 in the world were made) they go for about 2000 Australian dollars I think...

^^ it's amazing how much of a legend-status they got without ever being produced in huge numbers ...

The TB303 is a drum / bass machine and a crap drum machine at that, it sucked so badly Roland stoped production on it in the 80's and it was a failure... when electronic music came along it took on a whole new look on life... the TB303 is so old it does not even have MIDI... and god forgive you if you have to change the batteries in it, you will lose all your presets!
