just watched the first half of the opening - at first I wasn't impressed...then they rolled out the whole smoke stack thing...and then Mike Oldfield...and then the giant voldermort..and then the rollcall of briitsh music through the ages - fantastic stuff.

I feel OK with this agreement. This reply is going to be be my last one reply in this thread as long as I don't feel being strongly offended or if it's related to the official Olympic Games 2012 in London.

I think warman is still feeling butthurt that munich lost to peyonghaing (I know I spelled that wrong). But I think they mostly lost because they don't want another repeat of the 1972 Munich games massacre. That imo is more plausible than north Korea causing trouble during the games.
I have been against the application of Munich for the Winter Games and Leipzig for this year's Summer Games all the time. And I mentioned the World Cup 2006 as well, because my opinion is that it was a mistake to choose Germany. Being a normal football supporter I had been faced with the overflowing police brutality against well behaving supporters in the years before 2006. I have realised the limit of human rights for visitors of a football match and the censorship in our media during this event.
I'm not proud that such an event took place in my country.

LOL ok I'll just ignore the comment from the guy who comes from a country who made the rest of the world miss out on 3 Summer Olympics and 2 Winter Olympics.

Ignore it, DMS! There's no way to offend me this way. I simply guess the rubbishy educational system of the U.S. leave out or glorify events like the "Wounded Knee Massacre" as an important necessary part in history of the conquest of "god's own country".
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wounded_Knee_Massacre
The sentence in bold has aroused my curiosity. I don't really follow football much, so I didn't pay much attention do the world cup at Germany. If you can provide links of any articles on the subject I'd like to read them please. And yes I am very well aware about the results of Manifest Destiny in North America, as well as Mexico and South America. I'm only American by birth, but my ethnicity is composed of mostly central native Americans, and some Japanese apparently. So trust me I'm not one of those hypocritical Americans who are aggressively against immigration. I know that this country was founded by nothing but immigrants and we are all descendants from them. But pretty much almost every region in the world has had their "Wounded Knee" moments. Even to this day. But since we are talking about the Olympics it made no sense for you to bring it up. I personally think it was harsh and rude of you to insinuate that the only way London can get an Olympics is through bribery. But whatever I'm not going to convince you otherwise.

watched the first half of the opening ceremony now - wasn't impressed for the first bit..found it a bit wishy washy..airy fairy...then the smoke stacks started rising and I was very impressed from then on! pretty epic!
huge focus on music, and I thought they did a great job with that! I can't help but wonder what other countries who were showing it had as their commentary
kinda wondered if they do like we do with eurovision and just make fun of everything going on the entire time lol.

As it looks like I was the only one on here who actually watched the olympics, what does everyone think of the closing ceremony?

The games were amazing, never watched so much tv! The closing ceremony didn't do much for me at all though.

What makes you say that??? I've watched a lot of Olympic games, just didn't comment on it. And I'll give you my opinions of the Closing Ceremony in about 4hrs. I'm looking forward to the handover presentation for Rio 2016, I'm making it a goal to be there live for at least the opening ceremony!

OK after seeing the closing ceremony I just have to ask, where the f**k were Adele and Elton John??? Was Elton originally in the lineup, but got booted off for stating facts about the overrated, unoriginal, washed up old twat Madonna??? And Adele would have been a better opener for the ceremony than whoever the hell that was at the beginning!
Other than that, it was a good show. I didn't like One Direction, Jessie J or Tiny Time (whatever his name is) in the lineup. And it's kind of hard to really show Fat Boy Slim's talent in 3 minutes. Loved Annie Lennox's entrance. Spice Girls was expected. Great tribute to John Lennon. Loved the Rio presentation, it's just what I thought it would be.

Yeah, we ignore that closing ceremony.
2 weeks of games shouldn't be overshadowed by that mess.
Jessie J? Why would we want that carpet munching slag singing queen?
