About 4 years ago my youtube account got deleted because i uploaded a music video from a label that didn't want that to happen. Back in the day music videos were ads for the artists record.

Now i got a warning on my current account because i uploaded a trailer for a movie. These days trailers are basically commercials for movies. They usually pay high money so that different medias would air them.

I tell you the "industry" has gone all stupid in this copyright thing, like beyond repair stupid. Now my account is apparently frozen before i watch some antipiracy ad and answer some questions. I just can't get my head around to doing that, i think id rather just delete the account myself.

I'm pretty sure the company has already, or have the intention to upload the trailer themselfs. It's easier for them to say to Google to label you as a infriger instead of contacting you personally

Know what you mean, but not in this case. It's a finnish movie, long gone from the "spot light". Only uploaded it because the movies site had been taken down and the trailer wasn't anywhere to be seen on the net.

By sharing for spreading other peoples property, you infringe their rights. Its how it works. By taking something someone else has done and sharing it technically infringes their copyright, as they own the property you're sharing.

Its not yours, so leave it alone. Simples.

(Same goes for music in mixes, only the majority of artists let it slide because in their eyes it is helping them out)

I'm full aware of copyright laws. If you read my first post again you'll probably see my point. Like fighting for copyright just for the sake of it. Even if it means their loss -> stupid.

aside from the fact that there is very little that the majority can or would do about it at very best they would break even in a court case..and thats best case, for the majority of it they would just be out of pocket for the proceedings. an established artist who could prove the song would loose x amount of sales might get some compensation...but again..its hardcore, not a whole lot of money going around at the moment from what i hear...

any smaller artist couldn't do jack really...especially if said artist was using any pirated software to make said song ;)

more on topic though

when its down to youtube they're probably mostly mad because they want all the hits to be on their video which they've got monetised/have an advert on.

the great thing about youtube is that when they launch a "thats mine" copyright claim the OP is ****ed even if it's nothing to do with them, i got videos with claims & adverts on & i'm sure it has nothing to do with the people i sampled lol

It gets worse when companies claim for things you have a license for or they don't own and are scamming. I've had copyright claims against my own songs I've written, I own the copyright too from digital records stores that somehow think they own the worldwide exclusive rights or something?

Had it happen to a few artists I know as well.

It happens a lot in football stadiums as well, where supporters filme other supporters while chanting and/or junping. The Deutsche Fuball Liga erases these videos, because they claim that they own the rights for football pictures in every stadium. And I'm talking about videos, which don't show any action on the field - only pure supporters emotions.

I and several artists already have, they ignore them, don't reply and youtube takes their side, I can't understand why!? I know people who work at google on youtube and they also wont give me a reply on it... seems like a touchy subject or something.

Regarding to the football videos, I rtemember that Youtube said that they don't check at all, because they can't know, if the uploader is the creator. So before Youtube gets send to court, they ban the video.
