It's just been confirmed that this extraordinary footballer has decided to play for another season. He's also allegedly open to playing for England in the summer.

What do people reckon?

He definitely retired too early, i always thought he had a couple of years left in him.

As for England, a midfield built around him (obviously depending on Roy's system) would work. BUT, despite his mega-footballing brain, he's not as mobile as would be expected.

Pulling the strings as part of a 3 in the middle set up would do the job nicely in the euro's, but a 4-4-2 with only one midfielder doing all the work would be a problem!

I think you are absolutely bang on Deano. I have been thinking exactly along those lines for a while.

Its said that you need to be able to play 4 games in 2 weeks to be a good international footballer. I dont think Paul has that kind of fitness left

Just goes to show how weak utd are in midfield if they bring him back from retirement, then beg him to stay on for another season, and as for going to the euro's england must be in real trouble if there looking to bring back a 37 year old who hasn't played for them since 2004

I'll tell you who would compliment Paul Scholes for England...Scott Parker - He'd do all the running, harassing, pressing and tackling leaving Scholes to pull all the strings going forward.

Scott Parker is not half the defensive/holding midfielder that Carrick is. He runs around a lot and gets stuck in, all the good shit people in England seem to like, but his positioning and his passing are woeful at times. We don't have the players to play our own game against the top sides, we're simply not good enough. Our only hope is to set up as a counter attacking 4-2-3-1. Ideally Wilshere would be the creative half of the double pivot, but with him missing Scholes is the ideal replacement. Failing that, I wouldn't even mind to see Leon Britton in there.

Looks like we did know and the answer is as expected. There's some real wasters (imo) in that squad picked today

Ok so the PFA young player of the year (and rightly so in my mind) Kyle Walker is out injured, so Micah Richards anybody? Oh no, he's not even on the reserve list...
