hardcore needs more artists and less caricaturist's ;)
I deem that trolling.
Hardcore needs more pre-historic Clubland spoofs by inexperienced artists featuring pouting grown men with appalling goaties

but I've seen, heard and done enough research to realise we're going through something weirdly similar all over again.
if this is true then you must agree that this would be happening no matter what govenment were in power! :x neither lib dems, labour, BNP or otherwise are going to save hardcore ;)
though i kinda see your point - the climates going to make things trickier to put on events, get bookings...stifeling creative spirit music producers producing hardcore..i think thats a hard thing to link -
maybe not enough producers are doing drugs? I was under the impression thats where most of our trippiest best music came from!!
Well both of these big recessions have come from Tory governments...not pointing fingers at any government though, I think any and every party has the capacity to be absolute morons when granted with the powers of running a country. Here, America...everywhere. Too right, no government is going to save hardcore, but if any government can sort this country out hopefully hardcore and all music will thrive creatively as a result.
As for drugs...I'd be tempted to agree (But then...of course I would). Drugs shaped hardcore just like they shaped so many other music scenes, the best music is often written under the influence of something. I personally think a new designer drug or a re-emergence of an old one would be the icing on the cake for the rave scene, good drugs = a lot of people rocking out to music. Simple as that.
Warnman I do agree with you, around the time Acid House got popular here is when we were in the last couple of years of our big recession (88-89), acid house and ecstasy culture flourished around then because it was something to be a part of, once the recession finished, the rave scene exploded in the 90s as music began to change and hardcore was one of the things to be born from that. Right now I think we're almost more oppressed than we were back then, I don't think people have anything they can feel like they belong to anymore which is the big thing missing, which is why I think we will probably have to wait until we can shake off the economic/governmental problems before we can enjoy happy music properly. I guess I'm just expecting a happy ending to all this shit that is going on around the world.

It should be something from the 2C-* family, god alone knows what that must be like with Freeform. Rushy and trippy...perfect for a Lost Soul set.

Awsome post hutchy, it's had me digging around in my tape packs from helter skelter. there's loads of breakbeat stuff in there and it would seem to me that it's not just a breakdown in the track to build it back up again but to reach out across the genres. Which IN MY OPINION can only be a good thing. It's probably just a phase to see what other maker it can tap into, coz lets face it there been nothing really happening for the last ten years or more.

Recently i went through my entire itunes library and put together my top 100 tracks of all time that i own. I'm sure there would be some others in there if i knew their names and owned them. The interesting thing about it is that despite being into the music since 1996, i always considered 2006 my favourite year musically.
In said top 100 i had 15 tracks from 2006 and actually had 16 from 2010 which was a year i consider to be far inferior so i guess what i'm saying is that from my perspective, despite the music going down quite alot in general, recent years still hold a good number of belters and like other people have mentioned, you just have to hunt a little harder for them.
As for the evolution of the sound; When things changed in 2004-5 i wasn't sure how i felt about it and i really think the modern sound really peaked in 2006-7 with nice heavy consistent basslines and euphoric sound and vocals made it a magic era. I think since then it started to get done to death and things have stagnated somewhat so the darker turn wasn't really unexpected. In 2006 - 2009 i loved Al Storm in a big way and in 2006 Squad-E made my favourite tune of all time. But in recent years they have turned to utter bollocks. I don't hear much from Squad-E and i pretty much hate everything Al Storm puts his name to.
In regard to petruccio and Modulate; they had one of their album sorta efforts on trackitdown called my sound or something like that and tbh i'd rather go to a take that concert (and i hate take that). the horrid unmelodic electro crap just goes through me and i really hope it doesn't take off. Breeze is another i can't stand right now.
There are positives tho;
-Tecknikore is pumping out great track after great track.
-Brisk is continuing to be consistent although it takes millenia for his tracks to be released.
-Love joey roit but heck knows where you buy his music.
-Sy & Unkown are again my producers of the year by a mile.
-Entity is amazing
-Eufieion makes some cracking stuff
-I don't care what anyone says, i still love hixxy
-I'm also getting back into Gabber big time atm with The Viper being the biggest highlight.
So there are positives for sure and it's a big shame that the retirement threads came from people like Kev energy, Sharkey and seduction instead of all these minimal wankers.

Really good year for them. Some quality tunes, and they seem to have stayed, largely, clear of all the minimal stuff.

Got a link? That sounds decent. :-)
I like Twista Records in general, as well. Squad-E and Re-Con make excellent cheese. They've gone a little off-point, for my taste over the last year. That extra crisp production and slight minimal/electro influence. But still pretty solid.

Yeah for sure, if we're gonna talk about the good:
-Happy Hardcore gradually coming out of the woodwork again
-Technikore still as strong as ever
-Fracus is brilliant
-Darwin is brilliant
-Eufeion is brilliant
-HU5 was awesome
-Really starting to like a lot of the breakbeat sounds
-Enjoying Entity's stuff a lot
-Starting to get into Freeform and the London parties are so, so friendly
