I only got into electronic music like 3 years ago, and I am constantly finding that just as a certain genre gets old, I find a completely new one. I first discovered trance, from there got into happy hardcore, then into hard trance, then hardstyle, then hardcore, then back to happy hardcore, etc etc until I am now into drum and bass. I was just wondering if anyone else shared the same sentiments or if I was the only one that switched genres so often.
I think the problem is that I go through music so quickly, that many of the genres cant keep up. All my friends know that if they want great music, they ask me for a suggestion. One part that really annoys me though is that I cant find any good electronic music in general in chicago, its all in the UK, Netherlands, Austria, Germany etc

I don't switch from one style of music to another, i listen to pretty much anything dance music related - you never know what's out there if you stick with 1 genre.
I find that being interested in lots genres keeps me from getting bored of any particular one. If i get a bit fed up with Hardcore, i might listen to more D&B for a while etc, helps to keep things interesting.

Have to agree with DMS. Anything that's got even the slightest 'hint' of 'Electronic' I will be listening to it. It's so that I can broaden my 'musical horizons' so to speak. But yeah, I mainly love the HHC and Drum N Bass sounds. They appeal to me because of the way the bass is structured. The kicks, high hats and all. Techno in general is ok sometimes I can listen to some of it when I'm on the train it sounds but can get a bit annoying & repetitive'. But with Trance I can listen to all for quite a long period of time and not get bored. But I'll need a 'break' by listening to the Jungle stuff especially Ragga Jungle that is just so funny with their Jamaican- sounding style. I love it!

DNB (the old school dirty bass dnb, and melodic dnb), Dubstep (the artistic chill out dub, not Skrillex dub), Trance (all types), Eurodance (woooo, love cheesy eurodance!), Hands Up to name a few.
Not a big fan of most House or Electro, but there are exceptions :P

I like a lot of different styles of electronic music especially the more extreme like terror, speedcore, breakcore and industrial stuff! but usually i listen to almost everything that make me feel something, both positive or negative vibes!

I agree with most of you in my tastes with music, as I tend to love any music that has electronic elements in it, as long as it isn't too repetitive (I'm looking at you electro house)
By style of music I didn't mean like "Wapanese Jpop" to "Ghetto gangsta rap", i meant more like within the realm of electronic music. I have slowly gone from thinking of techno as "yay dj splash and trance" into "Holy shit there are a lot of awesome genres".
@ Karthy I'm glad I'm not the only one that finds cheesy eurotrance entertaining, I liked this song for like 2 weeks (not a big fan of the music video though) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wBvMkSl9O8&ob=av2n I'm assuming that "artistic chill out dub" includes liquid dubstep, so I agree with you there.

you know what's funny? i've done the same thing you are doing, the only problem is the newer the song is, i find the worse it sounds. i'll use deadmau5 as an example because i'm canadian :P if you listen to his older albums compared to his newest one, they are a lot better! i just wish someone would bring sometthing new to the table besides bumo up music to make money (exclude happy hardcore from that)

since you'e made a quick stop at dnb i would suggest checking out hospital records. Netsky, Camo & Krooked, Danny Byrd etc. are AMAZING producers. um... i would also check out Grafix, Fred V, S.P.Y., Brookes Brothers, and J Majik & Wickaman. those are some artists i like, and hopefully will help get you started to find some you do :D

you must not be looking very hard =P although it's not as awesome as it once was (imo mid to late 90s), chicago still has a strong underground.
much like dean said, don't try and listen to only just one genre...it will become stale quickly. be diverse in your music selection and you'll come to appreciate it more...also see different influences in dance moving into other styles.

I dont like "mainstream" gabber too much but i have to admit that there are some goods tunes that are really good especially from enzyme and something from traxtorm. I dont think speedcore is just something done to make something harder endin in itself. There are a lot af artist out there makin quality music with his own distinctive features

@Devante I love camo and krooked, as well as b-complex from hospital records. They are sick! Especially "climax" by camo and krooked. I'll look up the others sometime soon. I agree with you on deadmau5, although I seem to differ from the people in this forum in that I don't hate skrillex himself or his music, I just hate his fans.
Brian K, you have any suggestions for good chicago artists? I heard dj caffeine play at a headhunterz concert, and he honestly wasn't that impressive (although the dubstep duo krewella was great)
Mainstream gabber seems like an oxymoron lol. Then again, you live in Italy and probably have a different group of friends that you hang out with than I do.
