I hear they are closing Liquid down in basingstoke after that nightclub chain went under, pity, inside its a really nice club, very futuristic.
The Liquid chain is going down?? News to me after they bought out the Hippodrom in Colchester and opened a new club in Portsmouth not long ago...
Shame, they had decent clubs. The Colchester one was a bit scummy though, not going to lie to you.

I've been to that place (we may have discussed this?). It was quite scummy, yeah. There was a girl trying to crack on with one of my mate's, and he kept coming back over to us going "My God she actually smells like shit". I think he necked her once and then ran away.

ahh, I only went once about 3 months ago, whilst visiting friends who live in basingstoke, was very drunk so did't really have time to get to know what the people were like - lots of students I remember (though to be fair, it was a wednesday so thats to be expected!).

Amazon needs to get a move on. I'm becoming restless.
Amazon think the release date is 24th.
As for the album. Only heard the first CD so far. Forgot what album I was hearing at first, because you wouldn't believe it was underground at all. Ive heard tunes from Al Storm and Technikore that would better suit this album, but it sounds like here they've thrown a Clubland set in. Few tracks are alright, but there's nothing to suggest its underground at all. You release an album called HU5, and the first track sounds as commercial as the next.
Technikore I think said that they are just representing their styles, but I hoped that they'd at least do something a bit more underground themed. Stuff like 'Fly' just shouldnt exist - neither should any of the minimal drops, and there's an entire Dougal & Gammer mini mix in there somewhere... Why? Subliminal promotion? :S :S Most of it just sounds so generic... Where Al Storm and Technikore meant to be the money horse? Bring in the sales?
I think the sad truth of the matter is that hardcore is losing so much popularity and so much momentum that 'underground' is now anything that isn't clubland - I don't say this as a bad thing because personally I love Technikore's stuff and I actually love the older 1-4 clubland stuff too but I think it's more a sign of the times - when things fall apart, everyone who isn't on the very commercial end of the spectrum has to stick together.
I'm not trying to argue with you, I'm just pointing that out - when hardcore picks up again no doubt the CDs will become a bit more 'underground' but I think it's probably hard to develop a 'best of the underground' CD when the scene itself is in such a state.
I don't think hooking new listeners in is such a bad idea either, there are probably a lot of lost souls (no pun intended) who have followed the clublandy sound for a while and aren't happy with the new techy direction it's taken so some familiar faces on a hardcore underground album might be nice to ease some of them in and get them hooked on the underground which they might like more - just as long as HU doesn't go too overboard with the familiar faces.
Once again - not an argument - just a more positive way of looking at the situation.

Only listened to CD1 so far and i love it for all the same reasons Olly hates it!
Wonderfully cheesy and throwaway, with none of that stripped down, minimal bollocks to put up with.
Yes, there are some horrendously bad tunes on there but stuff like The city is mine, Get ya hands up, Lights down low and Euphoria made me smile and think of happier times!

Nekoshuffle is reading it pretty much the way I did.
Feedback, both immediate and considered, is vital. We listen. We act. Help!

no track listings come up when you put it into the pc on itunes or windows media player which means a wonderful time putting in track names manually. And oh yes there's like a hundred tracks on each CD yay!

You would have hated it 10 years ago before the internet really knew what Hardcore was. This is only a recent thing lol.

There's not much we can do about iTunes or Windows Media player; neither utilise the CD-text (presumably instead relying on a database somewhere).
WMP at least has a plug in that enables the use of CD-text, if anyone knows of something similar for iTunes feel free to share.

Yeah they own Ikon in Bolton which apparantly is shutting down because the owners are in administration. That will leave us with 1 nightclub :(
Anyway....HU5....
CD1 - Its wicked, nothing wrong with it at all, yes its cheesy but HU is an album for all types of hardcore so cheese has to be in there really! All the production is top notch, Al Storm is a gifted chap, awesome ideas in his tracks. Some really good tracks to sing along to and a couple of novelty things (the Evolution and the D&G mash up things). I also LOVE the girls voice right at the start of the mix haha...seriously I do!
CD2 - Some top songs on that too, great to see F&D remix a styles and breeze track and its been done damn well! Brisk's remix of Im Not An Addict is class too, such an infectious vocal.
CD3 - Best one for me (not just cause it has my track on it), its so diverse, never know whats coming next. The first half of the mix is particularly strong, special mentions to the Gavin G track, and the F&D remix of I Will Wait.
CD4 - I dont really keep in touch with freeform but always enjoy it when I hear it, its not as good as the Oli G and Lost Soul mix on HU4 or the freeform disc on Bonkers 16 (which are the 2 best freeform mixes ever imo) but its damn good. Douglas makes some awesome stuff and Cube::hard is just unreal! Also really enjoyed 'Domination' by Transcend (who are a new name to me)
As a sidenote....Great to see Darren Styles on it, Hardcore Underground or not, hes a big name and a talented guy so to have him on the album in a couple of slots is wicked, I know some people will disapprove but sod them, imo the HU series is all about 'The best music gets on no matter what your name is' and this volume shows that more than ever, established names and some brand new names too! Great to see Vicky Fee on there too, wicked vocalist! Very pleased at the amount of breakbeat too!
Thumbs up!
*Awaits volume 6*
