Yeah, as people have said - difficult to offer an opinion that applies to all elements/corners of the scene.

The only thing I will say is this: I seriously, seriously fcuking hope that this stuttering electro shit that the likes of Breeze, Petruccio & Modulate are pushing doesn't become the main influence in UK Hardcore. If they make a little off-shoot, and have their own little stuttering electro thing - that's fine. But if it's just the tip of the iceberg and other prominent people start producing it - it could be game over for me. It's worse than the fcuking minimal stuff. Jesus. What's more irritating is that the three I've mentioned are three of my favourite producers. They've made some awesome tracks over the years, consistently. I just think to myself "We must have similar tastes - you've made this stuff, and I've loved it. Now, how is it that you've made this new stuff and think it sounds good. People's ears can't be that different".

I'd like to hear more stuff like the tracks that Andy Dee signs to his label (Make Believe Records). He has impeccable taste (well, impeccable in terms of what I want to be hearing).

hehe guess we'll have to agree to disagree on that one. Personally I think all the electro, techno and dubstep is great in Hardcore. Stuff like GAMMER AND KLUBFILLERS "FUTURE FUZZ" or DOUGAL AND GAMMERS "MONSTER" etc. Hardcore has to move with the times. All the younger crowd love dubstep and electro in hardcore. Just look at how much it goes off when played at big parties.

Imo some of it's okay, but most of it's crap... I'm more of a fan of vocal hardcore, or even just melodic hardcore, that'd what most hardcore lovers have grown to love.

This whole move to the dirty side of hardcore was more because of the fact that it can get more interest to the scene than it actually sounds good to people who genuinely follow hardcore, which I disagree with... That, and the fact that it sounds like shit make it not a good thing in my eyes... But I can understand that others may like it, just not for me :P

I think a lot of people who genuinely love hardcore like the dirtier sounds too. It would'nt make guys who produce it like Joey Riot and Gammer win Hardcore awards. Hardcore awards are voted by genuine fans of Hardcore I would have thought:)
I love the vocals and happier sounds too. But is good to have a variety and move with the times. And quite a bit of the electro is still happy and with vocals. STYLES AND GAMMERS "YOU AND I" etc...

^ This. Whether they're Underground or even in the Top 40 the biggest hardcore anthems are always unmistakably hardcore, it's fun and good to experiment but I don't think it's a good move to change a genre to sound like another, when everyone is over dubstep and techy stuff (which they will, it happens to every type of music) hardcore is going to seem very weak and will have a repuatation as being the genre that just speeds up whatever the currently popular genre is.

Obviously I'm a massive old skool happy hardcore fan but I think what'd make a lot of people happy is just going back to the euphoric vocal upfront stuff and then slowly changing it in another direction from there...maybe structure the tracks to be a bit more progressive like freeform is; have various elements of the track gradually come in rather than the standard breakdown -> drop format. Or maybe put in a slightly harder kick similar to S3RL.

IMO that would make the most sense but it doesn't really matter to me anyway, I've sort of stopped caring about where hardcore is going and am just doing my own thing now, paying attention to a few artists and labels and just enjoying stuff where I can.

I was actually going to use You & I as an example of one of the very few tracks that I like in that style, and Future Fuzz actually. But they're not fully stuttering electroified in my opinion. They still have a hint of pace in them. That's my main beef, I think. Vocals - great, euphoric initial build up - great. The rest of the tune is just like, I dunno, at the risk of repeating myself - stuttering. There is absolutely no flow, no galloping beat, no pace - which is, for me, the foundation of all hardcore.

I'm not disputing the use of "dirty" sounds either, per se. Take Hoodzie's label for example - Tryed n Tested - which specializes in twisty and dirty sounds. He manages to use them without completely crippling the momentum of a tune. When that stuff comes on at raves, I don't love it, but I can still go mental and rave to it. When I'm at my next rave and this stammering stuff comes on, I can't imagine doing anything else than going to the bar, going for a smoke, then sitting down and drooling over hot raver-gash until the set's over.

I find a small sense of Glee that that Trancy UK Hardcore sound that killed the massie 90s Old Skool sounds has now been wiped out by new sounds. If the 90s had to end then so did the 2000s I guess/

I spend most of my time listening to Old Skool (1991-1997) Hardcore & shun most of the modern stuff unless it apeals to me or has the good hard kicks.

Some good New Old Skool does come out but some of it is weak.

Also I might by the new Hardcore Underground as this seems to be a bit more on my level, who knows. Plus I miss buying a new CD from HMV.

Who remembers back in the mid 2000s HMV would have nearly every Bonkers on sale? I brought them all within the space of a year and at one time I went mad and had one at least a month lol

I havent found enjoyment out of it for a while. AWF was my last hurrah with producing 'core really... Even the tracks ive started this year (which are imo my best) i just can't get around to finishing because i feel so uninspired and have done so for months.

As for the music itself... same goes really.

^ A lot of people do that when the techy stuff comes on, but it's not so much about the tunes

People misunderstand the power of the DJ, they see Gammer doing loads of techy stuff and people going mad to it and say "see, everyone loves the minimal electro stuff" but the reality is that Gammer is just a bloody good DJ and knows how & where to drop that stuff and how to pace his set and make the crowd go wild.

Other DJs start with a minimal/electro/dubstep track, play another similar one and then the dancefloor clears because you can only really drop that stuff when you have some momentum behind it, DJ sets are meant to be like a journey or a ride, not just a collection of the latest tracks played one after the other with no thought.

The most wild I've ever seen a dancefloor go is when Billy Bunter dropped House of Pain - Jump Around in the middle of a hardcore set, the place went nuts. But does that mean that hardcore should suddenly start sounding like 90s hip hop? No. It just means people need to be a bit more creative and intuitive in their DJ sets.

that's great news!

Keep your money in the pocket till music worth buying comes up. That should get the artists to rethink... of only more people would do this.

But I have a feeling that if we do, they will just complain about people pirating it

I think the problem I seem to have with a lot of new UK Hardcore is the complete lack of rhythm. I find myself standing on dancefloors at modern Hardcore events & I just don't know what to do with myself.

People would argue that it's the beat that gets everyone moving but not for me, it's always been the rhythm inbetween & clever plays on the melody. This is seriously lacking now imo & I struggle to move my feet.

I find myself at a lot more Deep & Funky House events now so I can get up & actually dance. I might dance like a tit but atleast the music drags me out my seat...

talking about lack of rhythm..I found myself becoming aware of my hands at the last event i was at...

looking around I was seeing guys with clentched fists furiously pumping away like they were pleasing two guys at the same time.....

then i was all like...oh crap am I doing that??...then I found myself doing the pointy finger dance, which we taught Oliver to do whenever Hardcore comes on the car stereo...so that didn't work

then I thought i would try judo chopping hands...that just looked like i was a retard trying to do the robot

its all very complex - i just ended up drinking more and forgetting about it
its getting late and i'm rambling
