What I like about in what I linked a while ago (which is about the best stuff I've heard in dubstep as a genre) is the heavy atmosphere, not the drop. I know you didn't aim at me, but I just wanted to clarify that. Also, I like chilled out Dubstep, even if you don't, and you have every right in the world to not like it, even if the "masses" do.
One thing that is watered down, in dubstep, is the wobble bass, sure, it is cool to have wobble bass but nowadays, the wobble bass is too over done. Like: "Ok, let's make som dubstep with some DIIIIIIIIIIIRTY wobbles and screeches!!!!" also yes; the standard drop is very overdone and boring, that's why I prefer stuff like Burial, who sneaks the drop in without making it the main thing.

I don't really think it has a heavy atmosphere, especially when you compare it to industrial music or bands like Laibach & Skinny Puppy.

That's much much much better, sounds like The Orb slightly. Yeah, popular dubstep hasn't got any Dub roots and most kids don't even know what Dub is, they think dubstep came from drum n bass.
I remember hearing this before there was any kind of 'dubstep' as such and it wasn't even categorised as Dub, Jellybass were travelling with big sub units and just playing bassy chillout music. I'm not sure how big they are now if at all.
