From one of the 'next big things' in the hardcore scene 5 or so years ago to one of the 'next best things' in Dubstep and winner of the Chase & Status remix comp with his 'Time' remix, it's been an eventful few years for this lad.

Personally, i wasn't a massive fan of his Hardcore but he did put out some good stuff. Like his recent dubstep style stuff as well. Don't really know why he gave up Hardcore but it's all on his website so not like he's trying to hide it!

Thoughts anyone?

That and it's terrible. I don't think gaining success really means anything these days, a tune can be pretty shit musically but if someone thinks it will sell then it will generate interest. Not heard any of his music though so can't comment on him personally.

yeah that's his dubstep pseudonym.

He released all of his hardcore tracks and a few dubstep ones a while back in a big .rar file. Relatively average producer but his video tutorials were very helpful IMO.

Yeah hes a decent guy, used to speak to him now and again via email and he used to visit HardcoreProducer quite alot.
I think the reasons for him leaving hardcore were frustration and also I think he grew out of it, he was like 14 when he did the remix of Blue Room by Scott Brown that was released on Evolution. Music taste often changes in people from 14 to late teens early 20s.

His dubstep alias was 'The Prototype' but he announced on facebook that he is ditching that, because after winning the Chase and Status competition, I think they or their label pointed out that its too similar to DnB act, 'The Prototypes', so that has been released as a Kev Willow remix and I believe all his future dubstep will be.

He also makes house music with hardcore producer Michael Scout (Futureworld Records) as Willow and Scout I think. I believe they are pretty good mates.

I think he stopped making hardcore because someone stole his Calling track, he sent it to a label and he never seen a penny from that label, all the money that was made of imodownload the label owner kept even though he got intouch with him a few times..

Only joined this forum to add a reply to this haha!

Basically im 20 years of age now, i began making music when i was 13, with the stuff my brother listened to he kind of brought me up on Hardcore so i initially thought ahh ok, this is what i wanna do, i wanna be the next Darren Styles

I made a few tracks, got some stuff released which was ****ing amazing considering my shitty setup (ive only just recently after 7 years upgraded from a single core to a 6core 7 ****ING YEARS HAHA!)

but anyway,
the reason i moved away from hardcore was i didn't like the bitterness about it,
All the top dogs in the scene (not going to be bitter and say names) weren't allowing fresh talent to blossom or develop it was kind of like "were here first so tought shit"

that was it firstly
secondly, i was kind fo just getting false promises, as someone mentioned up there i got a few tracks signed to a label back in my youth haha!,
anyway it actually done very well made a bit of money but i didn't see a penny from it!

After i released my EP from Kev Energys label (the one with numb ya brain and shit on) i just got really really fed up with it to be perfectly honest, i always wanted to do house so i dabbled in that for a bit,

Then dubstep came along and i was like whattt isss thissss!?!?!?!?!
So i jumped on the bangwagon of dubstep, started producing this about 9 months ago under the alias "The prototype" but after me winning the chase & status competition a few weeks back the actual 'prototypes' got in touch and basically said its too similar people are confusing you for us and us for you,
i was like fair doose, not gonna cause a fuss out of it!

So now i just create dubstep and more recently moombahton (basically house music at 108bpm)

So the answer to your question is,
i couldn't see myself going any further with hardcore as the bigger names weren't allowing me to shine through so i thought

**** it! :)

But yeah thats my story!!

erm...

Im currently working on some stuff with Whizzkid, were working on an EP/Album together its just gonna be a mixture of stuff from Dubstep to Drumstep to D&B... anything and everything really!

Hope that answers your questions!

and to those who haven't heard my music!

God damn DJ's
I dont give a ****
Im sick of this hardcore ******** - playin all them pumpin tunes
all them ravers and glow sticks, what the ****s all that about?!
all that hardcore and that ****in mc whizzkidd sucks dick
****ing thing gets on my nerves
theres the first gate, and the second gate, and theres darkness and all that kind of ********
well at my gate theres a big fat dick waitin for yo ass.
so **** you!

Doesnt surprise me to be honest Kev, its the same story everytime. The glass ceiling thats created for whoever wasnt there for the renaissance of hardcore and so on. Makes me lol, at the end of the day, there are fans out there, you just have to reach them.

Edit:
Its a big shame too. Kev was a big contributor. He taught me ALLOT with his youtube vids, and was a producer's producer. He also had time on radio 1xtra to play a set, right? Shame about the prototypes got in contact, that name stuck with you kev for a couple of years right?

The old guard have to keep the money coming in somehow. Dont this Hixxy and co would be able to get regular jobs. They have been playing shit music to kids for the past 20 years, why would they want to give an up and comer something?

Its the reason hardcore is the same old cookie cutter shit and anyone with real talent has ****ed off to make music that they can make some money on Ie. Vinylgroover, Impact etc.

Fair enough.

Absolutely. And i suspect 90% of the people complaining would do exactly the same if put in the same position. People don't turn down easy money.
