I've been into the alternative rave scene for quite along time now, something like 14-15 years. I enjoy all the genres that have surrounded the hardcore such as dnb, freeform stuff like that. But I was wondering how strong is the gabba scene these days? I'm not overly into the hardsyle triplet thing but it's ok. I'm more into the stuff from the mid to late 90's. The Deathchant records stuff, all the hardcore techno Dj scorpio, producer, and clarkee were pioneering. Whats hot and what's not? post youtubes of wicked tracks from youtube in this area. thanks alot :)

imo everyone that makes hardstyle came from gabber, so if hardstyle is about tripplets (wtf is thsi anyways?) then gabber has it. Personally harsdstyle could go grow a beard in a girls ass for all I care.

Here in Germany it is way stronger than 5-10 years ago. It probably is the 2nd biggest underground scene after Hardstyle. Especially in the Ruhr-area the Dutch have a strong influence. They do have 1-2 Gabba events every weekend up there. The former center of German Gabba scene in Berlin weakend, but still exists. Frankfurts influence in Gabba is dead.

Ok thats wicked to know, thank u. Quite up for attending some events when i come over to Germany in the summer.
Regarding the 'triplets' this is just a compositional term to do with quantisation and syncopation of rhythm, from what I've heard of hardstyle (which isn't much), there seems to be a lot of triplet beats used, where the beats bounce in a certain time, which seems to be pretty much used exclusively on every track. This certainly wasn't present in earlier gabber.

Try hitting up Masters of Hardcore. I know nothing about hardstyle/Gabber but my friend loves it. He went to the belgium one last year and he still won't stop talking about it so it's definitely worth it I suppose :P I have to say the videos look like they really put on a show for it.

The triplet thing is referring to the time signature of the track. Hardcore is written in 4/4 with straight eighth notes, i.e. the kick and offbeat bass. Most hardstyle, especially the melodies, are written in 12/8. The kick would still hit 4 times in every bar, but instead of having two notes per beat, there are three. Or you could say it's written in 4/4 with swung eighth notes but that's more of a swing/jazz kind of thing. Lol.

yes triplets often make gabber/hardstyle songs sound more 'marchy' like an army marching into war or something.

Thank Neko for the tip. and warnman wicked of u to help thanks. Will have a look and post the german :)
Cheers wilky, i never even given podcasts a thought. the twisted one is wicked.
One track that i heard quite along time ago was Scott brown's Boom stick. Is that gabba or hardstyle? Hardstyle seems to vary in tempo is that correct? But really like that track. I also quite like the blend of euphoria and hard gabba rhythms.

Yeah they really pull out all the stops. At Master of Hardcore I saw video of a HUGE skull behind the stage with fire coming out of it, along the side of the dancefloor there were dirtbikes riding along these obstacle courses and stuff with sparklers coming out of them and stuff. I've seen some videos of psytrance parties too in like deserts and stuff with big trippy screens everywhere and huge colourful props of like buddha and stuff, really mental how much some genres put on a show, I'd love to see hardcore do the same but there's not really a 'theme' to the music (like skulls, trippy stuff etc.)
