but if you're including nextgen, bb/ hu, & nu energy labels then clearly you two need your ears checked and your head examined
Yeah man. This.
I'm not suggesting you're saying it for the sake of it or anything, or for effect (Matt & Neko) - but if this track was similar to the majority of current stuff out there at the moment, I'd be nowhere near Hardcore.
Granted, there's a number of tracks that sound similar. But there is a load of good stuff out there that doesn't sound a thing like this.
I do wonder what it is that changed though really, I mean my heart will always be in 97/98 but I'm not one of these "I hate modern hardcore" people. I love all the 2006 dougal and gammer stuff and all of the vocal tracks that were out at the time but now it seems...different? Darker maybe?
Yeah I listen to all kinds of releases constantly, I have to say nu energy stuff is a bit too freeformy and trance-ish for me, a lot of australians seem to love that sound but it's not really for me. HU stuff is interesting, but most of the time it never really hooks me, I'm sure the production is brill though.
I always feel like a right arsehole whenever I moan about new hardcore but I don't like doing it myself, it's just a shame that I can't listen to a podcast and be like "WOW can't wait for this tune to come out" and stuff, I have to follow a handful of names here and there and see what they come out with.
But yeah, once again, I don't like moaning about this sort of thing, it's just a shame because I'm 19 and I'm in my prime youthful young years and I can't really find much enjoyment in my fave genre of music :(

Mate, I totally understand and sympathise, and you certainly haven't got defend yourself for a having a moan.
As for a few bits you mentioned: Dougal & Gammer for example. Their vocal stuff from the mid-2000's (along with Styles', Breeze's etc) is really the definition of hardcore for me. And before people pull me up on it, I'm not for a second suggesting that that's what Hardcore is. I just mean for me - that is what got me hooked, what I still listen to with passion to this day, and the kind of hardcore I look for now, and going forward.
I really don't like much of Gammer's stuff now. It sounds so clean, and there's just no euphoria or happiness. I'm sure his productions are to a great standard, but that's not enough for me. Still have enormous respect for him as a DJ, obviously.
Hardcore Underground stuff. I'm exactly the same as you. Interesting, I'm respectful of it. But it doesn't give me that hardcore hard-on.
These days, I look at labels like GTYM, Tryed N Tested, NSR, JB Recordings, Candy Crush Music, Divine UK Hardcore, Electrik Euphoria and all of that kind of stuff. Vocal-based, fast, happy. Great. Fortunately there's a shit load of it around at the moment. And I know to a lot of people this stuff is just tosh, but I adore it.
And a final word on Styles. Cannot fault him. I thought with Feel The Pressure he really answered a lot of people's gripes about selling out/commercial/pop-y etc - even though those people probably wouldn't admit to the fact that he'd done that.
Edit: I can't submit a post on 'what I like in hardcore these days' without giving Michael Mansion a mention. That guy is a genius, and he always uses sensational vocalists.

Unless you've ignored/disregarded most of what I've said in this thread - my point isn't that the top-tier, prominent, more successful producers sound different to the example of this song, but that ASIDE from these guys, there is a lot of other stuff out there (the labels I listed for example) that sound different to the song in the OP.

I wasn't suggesting it's literally the same as everything else, lol.
I think we best get the Clarification Police down here for a little investigation then, hadn't we Mr?
"Sounds the same as all other Hardcore to me lol."
The key word was literally :P It otherwise sounds the same in that i dislike it equally.
lol, I'm still not convinced that I understand what you mean.

It means that it's all equally bad to me. So it's all the same in that sense.

I love the drop... that kick and bass does it for me. But Re-Con made MUCH better use of that spoken sample in 6 Months Recovery.
