Is it because of the underground thrill or the astonishing welcoming atmosphere?
I ask, due I plan to travel to the U. K. for 1-2 weeks in summer holiday and hopefully visit a couple of HHC raves.

it's because UK raves don't have kandy (apart from me), they don't have people sat at the edge of the dancefloor hugging and getting lightshows. We don't have that happy ecstasy vibe here with colourful characters and stuff. It's very jeans + t-shirt here with most people getting very drunk. You get drunk, dance, maybe chat a bit in the smoking area. There's no PLUR there's no big community feel, doesn't feel quite as special over there. We don't have big long queues outside our raves either. Seen one outside raverbaby but that got cleared quickly.
Oh and also there's virtually no cheese either :P I'd PAY to hear eyeopener but alas not heard it yet. However DHD kindly played Rainbow to the Stars for me on NYE and it goes down as one of my fave nights ever. That was an EXTREME one-off.
Basically UK is sort of darker in raves, fights aren't uncommon at all, there are no people 'rolling' really. I've only met a few people on actual MDMA in all the time I've been raving (as opposed to rubbishy pills). Also raves over there are actually bigger for the most part. I have no idea where their idea of 'raves are huge in the UK' comes from. Some of the big events are quite big but aside from those you average on a couple hundred people most of the time.
Have to say I love the look of North American rave scene much more, can't wait to go there. But then I am BIG on my cheese and my kandy and stuff. I cant imagine any brits making kandy and giving it away, people seem absolutely bemused when I do it, some people give it back saying they dont want it, some people ask me how much it costs for one and stuff.. not the same over here at all.

Don't get me wrong, my friends in the scene are brilliant, lovely people but I'm talking in general if you ran up to someone and started talking to them they might not be happy and tell you to piss off and if you hug the wrong person you might get a punch in the face =/
also in the video the guy was on MDMA which, although a lot of people here do drugs, security will throw you out if you are obviously on drugs. I've gotten friends to give me lightshows before but it had to be hidden away from patrolling security because if I was sat down looking like I'm obviously off my head they'd throw me out and leave me to the mercy of the streets. You can sit down in designated seating areas but some security will get a bit funny with you if you just sit anywhere.
In london though for the most part once you're through the door you don't really see security unless there is a problem which I really like because you don't have to be constantly vigilant when you're trying to enjoy yourself lol :P I do like london raving I have to say, very nice vibe there surprisingly considering it's our capital.

I'm no Candy, but I try to live PLUR, when I go raving. XTC is an absolutely no-go-area for myself. I already know how Captagon took effect on me (I have ADHD). I am pretty sure it will kill me.
At least you have HHC-events in the UK. I'm living in a desert.

If you get just a bag of clean MDMA (Active ingredient in Ecstasy pills) it will not kill you. In fact even if you took a couple of really dirty pills it probably wouldn't kill you either. MDMA is a molecule that releases serotonin, it's harmless. Just consider that 0.2g of MDMA is enough to get most people pretty out of it depending on their tolerance. Yet a pill weighing 1g or 2g will do the exactly the same if not a bit less. Makes you wonder what's making up that 0.8g and that's what you have to avoid. In many cases it will be binding agents that are harmless to humans, in other cases it may be certain amphetamines which your body could react badly to if you have a heart condition or something but given how small pills are you'd have to be in a very bad physical state for it to kill you. As the quote goes "The biggest danger of bad drugs is disappointment"
I'm not encouraging or discouraging you to take MDMA or any drugs but the more people that spread the knowledge around the safer raves become and more people will learn to control their substances better.

I have a friend with ADHD who does MDMA and it doesn't affect him any differently from other people who take it. Either way, don't worry about it, and don't worry about people putting it in your drink, nobody would want to waste their drugs like that, its not like you're out of control on MDMA.

hahaha awesome! I'm going to Toronto this May, NYC in Aug for Candyball and hopefully Canada again a little later in the year, I'm sure we'll bump into each other somewhere :D
