Didn't he say he didn't like the fast tempo of hardcore or something?

That's what I heard, too, Chief.

Youtube doesn't have the original track, so it's hard to compare. Guessing it could be some very unknown producer who Tom happened to hear a song by and decided he wanted to remix it.

Truth be told, the track reminded me much of gammer's productions. I'd say his "sound" is a freeform sound =P.

Actually, as a hard trance track I thought it was rather underwhelming. Not particularly dark, nor uplifting, it sorta just hovering in the middle a bit lost and confused with nowhere to go. Speed it up to a freeform track and it's amazing. All the more reason for why he should go back to freeform.

You asked if he has done any other trance stuff, and the name of it came to me today -- Unforgettable hope - Gammer (Cube::Hard mix)

I'm not sure how to describe it, but I wouldn't say it was lost and confused with nowhere to go (I felt like it knew exactly where it was going). As crazy as this sounds, it felt both dark and uplifting to me. It felt like they were clashing with each other (with one coming out atop the other at times).

On a related note, I also wish he would make more hardcore.

Fair enough, I will back up my comment though.

Freeform as a genre (particularly in it's latter guises) was not so much about building up to a climax, rather it was very very energetic, fast and flowing. Some tracks did climax, but they were generally borderline normal uk hardcore.

Typical dark hard trance kept the energy with very basic synth lines, often just a bass line that didn't vary of change much, quite hard kicks and not much else. It held the energy quite well following that formula. Derb, Tracid et al were masters at this.

The uplifting tracks were also quite energetic, but made it through pitching melodies that continued rising higher.

This track follows neither route, just tries to create an energetic melody following the standard freeform method. the meldoy doesn't really rise to stupid heights, nor does it really belt out in teh bass line and kick. It's certainly not dark. It's just lacking the energy it deserves and what it needs is another 20 or so bpm.
