Recently I have been toying around with the EQ settings in iTunes (under View>Show Equalizer) to see if I can make my tunes sound more like the producers intended. Does anyone have ideas or suggestions on what preset to use or any custom settings? Usually I have it set on electronic or just off altogether.

No one can really tell you as it would depend entirely on the system and the room in which you're listening. You could try boosting the lows and highs, that's what most people seem to do for dance music. Doesn't always sound good though!

The closest way to hearing it "as the producers intended it" would be to hear the main mixdown either in their studio or the mastering one. If it sounds well on any other system it's purely down to work in these 2 areas.

Do you mean that they are 'your' tunes, ie; tunes that you have produced,
or tunes by other producers that you wish to listen to?

that's what I do for my mp3 player if I'm using headphones, but if I'm playing through a receiver I have different settings depending on if I'm using the old one or the new one.

Both, but more tunes from other producers/artists (I am fairly new to the production scene)
I just feel like sometimes the vocals are a little buried under hard bass, but then when I turn vocals up and bass down it ruins the overall feel (ie. bass rythm)

If it's your own productions then use the 'Dance' setting.
If it's professionally produced tracks then don't mess with anything as you'll be undoing all of their hard work.
If you've got it loud enough on speakers for the acoustics of the room to have a noticeable effect, the chances are
it's loud enough to annoy your neighbours and is too loud.
Just get decent speakers or headphones.

+1
But I disagree about the room. Room acoustics play a role at any volume. EQ won't do much about it though - the RT60/decay time can't be fixed with EQ. Peaks and nulls of an untreated room are generally so significant that EQ would only solve problems in a tiny sweet spot (so if you moved even a few inches left or right it would need completely different EQ settings).
Rather than EQ, get some acoustic treatment for your room. You probably don't want to do that, so just don't touch the EQ ;)
