I'm getting seriously hooked on my Psytrance these days & plan to get stuck into a few tracks of my own. The thing is, i'm struggling to figure out how that warbled bassline is layed down & can't seem to find midi's for the life of me.

Can anyone plz help me track down some Psytrance MIDI's or mabey have some of their own that might help me get started. Cheers.

Warbled bassline? Generally it's just 3 notes in a row, you need short decay times for it to sound right etc. So it's more about programming the envelopes right than anything.

cheers bud, yeh it's a lot more complex than I thought. Variation in Velocity has a lot to do with it aswell. I bought the 'Nuborn: Psytrance MIDI Pack' & have a few decent ideas on the go already. Will post some up in a while & you can check em out, if your into your Psytrance that is. Can't get enough of it myself.

I normally have 3 notes like Hard2Get said, one on each 16th not ocupied by the kick. I have a sort quiet one first then the longest and loudest next followed by something inbetween the two length/volume wise. Can also chuck a sidechain in with this to make the bass have more interaction with the kick. This is a very simple way of doing this sort of bass.

Another thing you can try is having 3 notes as above that have been low cut and just having s nice subby low layer playing just the last two of those notes. This can give more room for the kick and is quite often used in faster Psy or Freeform.

Something I think a lot of Psy producers are using for bass is a sidechain against a multi-band compressor. This allows you to make the low end move out the way for the kick but allows the other frequencies to keep the rhythm of the bass.

sorry Gary, I forgot to get back & check this mate. I'm useless I know! lol

Cheers for your help, really appreciate it! It's such a clever style of Dance music & the production is always insanely clean. I love styles that really push the boundaries. Got a few ideas on the go at the min & will certainly try a few of your suggestions & see how I go. Cheers bud.
