Oh don't be fooled... Smoogie's the only one left who still bothers. But then he was a bit of a late bloomer.

Some people are just stuck in the past. Whilst I can appreciate hardcore from the early 90's to present I have to admit some of the best underground hardcore I've ever heard is being produced now.

Underground music has it's own definition, it's not something that is dependant on a persons opinion. Generally it's music that doesn't have a massive mainstream or commercial appeal but still has a decent fan base or following. There isn't much promotion or advertising, except that from forums like this, other websites, word of mouth, etc... Majority of it comes from the smaller/lesser known record labels.
Personally, I feel I can tell between a track that is made for mass commercial appeal and thus profit and one that is made for the love of the music and/or what the fans want. That said, I wouldn't want the underground sound to become more mainstream, because I like to enjoy as part of an exclusive group who know what they like.

I agree that Hardcore seems to be moving in the right direction now. It's far from the best it's ever been but there seems to be a lot more top choons floating about.
