I've loved this tune for many years but still don't know what the lyrics are, can anyone help?

Cheers

Through bushes and through briars
I've lately made my way
All for to hear the small birds sing
And the lambs to skip and play

It's from a ballad made in 1966.

Yeah it's Isla Cameron - Bushes and Briars it was from the film Far From the Madding Crowd.

Found a clip from the film:

Julie Christie's just miming, it's Isla Cameron singing.

Just having a listen to the Seduction version and he's changed the lyrics slightly.

I'm amazed at you knowledge, and I thought I knew my stuff. You should go on mastermind ;-)
Do you know if Seduction sampled it from somewhere or got his own vocalist?

Haha. I didn't know that Seduction had done that track.

The song is one of many 'rescued' by the English composer Ralph Vaughan Williams who, during the early part
of the Twentieth Century, travelled around England transcribing and preserving as many folk songs as he could find.

We started, but never finished, a version of that about 10 years ago - http://www.ionosphere.co.uk/AUDIO/Ionosphere-B&B.mp3

Nice arrangement, where did you get the vocals from?

I can't believe you've never heard Seductions version from 1992 , was massive, and been a couple of remixes since. The most recent I'm aware of was Storm's remix in 1998.

After hunting around, it seems as though a lot of folk think that the singing was sampled from Molly Priors, although no-one can find this song.

The lyrics are supposedly slightly different to the one's you posted Mortis, but not far off.

Come again

Through bushes and through briars
I lately took my way
For to hear the young birds singing
And the lambs to sport and play
Through bushes and through briars
I lately took my way
For to hear the young birds singing
And the lambs to sport and play
Come again

Come again

Come again

Through bushes and through briars
I lately took my way
For to hear the young birds singing
And the lambs to sport and play
Through bushes and through briars
I lately took my way
For to hear the young birds singing
And the lambs to sport and play

Come again

Come again

Through bushes and through briars
I lately took my way
For to hear the young birds singing
And the lambs to sport and play
Through bushes and through briars
I lately took my way
For to hear the young birds singing
And the lambs to sport and play

Apparently the original folk song had the lyrics "and the lambs to SKIP and play"

Seems it was older than what I first thought. At least you've gotten some good information about the tune now.

Yep, cheers mate. Would like to know where Seduction sampled his version from, but seems as though no-one knows for sure (except himself of course ;-) )

I'm pretty sure my old man used to play a 60's - 70's track that was a cover of this. Will see him later today so I'll ask him.

I think that this link was the starting point to me finding the song - http://www.mustrad.org.uk/reviews/ingrave.htm

but can't remember where I went after that....

and as for Seduction's track, well.... I must have been absent for a while....

some of that period is a bit of a blur you know.... :-/
