i know recently there was a hardcore MC thread on here, and this is kind of a spin off it, just a little more posative hopefully..

sooo well see what we get on here because im aware how a lot of people on here think about MC's. but for those of us who like them/are them...

who do you like right now?
to me storm and whizzkid will always be near the top(they have their faults but most people i talk to who are into mc's agree this is undisputable...most of the people who have negative things to say about them, dont like mc's in general)

wotsee of course has some great lyrics.
and static and enemy are doing big things imo as well

in North America, i like rukkus a lot, and i met/ heard an MC from buffalo pez, that impressed me.

what do you think? who do like? and what problems do you have with MC's(as long as its not "they're all shit, cuz they ruin the music" this is not an argument, and not your thread)
and where do you see it going if any where?

I don't mind an MC as long as they don't try 'steal the limelight' from the music.
An MC (imo) is there to get the crowd going - not to get all the attention.

An example? : Went to Uprising in Sheffield a few times- Big Hardcore night with amazing tunes...but the MC's don't shut up and let the music speak for itself (Sounds like a contradiction)...But the MC constantly talks over 95% of each song inc. breakdowns, singing etc. Yet this MC seems to be praised for what he does. I ended up avoiding it due to going to a rave and spending most of the time tryin to block out his voice going on and on and on and on and on...and all the MCs there where the same. Bought a mix CD from the nights in a shop and have never listened to it all the way through as it gives me a headache.

Now on the other hand, I have a Eddie Wray and Livelee tape, and MC Livelee does an amazing job working well with the DJ in helping hype the crowd up to f**k. MCDC who teams up with Tizer is also a favourite.

So, prob to sum it up - An MC is only good to listen to when they work as a team (i.e. DJ,Music and MC) instead of the 'look at me!! Look at me!!' approach.

yup i agree, gotta work as i team(DJ is fine without an MC but an MC needs a DJ)...some dj's like/want mc's though, and have no idea how to work WITH and mc. but your spot on with what you said

Mc squared will always be pure and simple pants creaming stuff. Love hearing sharkey on the mic think hes got one of the best voices ever. And I have a hell of alot of respect for Wotsee think he works his ****in arse off on stage and is a really nice guy to talk to.

But the one Mc who will always get me stomping twice as hard and twice as long is Livelee....He was on krafty a while back and even though i was sitting in a lounge with a group of NON raver friends i couldnt help but sing along to every lyric and end up stompin my bollox off to him. Mind you in my eyes anything Vibes or Livelee touch turns to gold as they're the reason im into hardcore :)

I will be honest though theres alot of Mc's that I just cant stand either there voice just isnt right for the mic or i just dont rate them. I wont start slateing because i dont think thats right, especially as i know a hell of alot of people dont rate me lol.

But jester mate, you do realise this will end up into another Mc hating thread as does EVERY thread about an Mc or Mcing in general on here....... Nice try though mate haha :P

I like MC's if used in a set properly. None of this crap you can't understand a word of. Basically have good lyrics & know when to use them & when not too. Can't say i really have a favorite at the moment though.

haha ya but i wanna see how many if any people on here have something to say who arnt just against MC's in general as those are the people that seem to shit on mc's. people who accept, like, love, dont mind mc's tend to have much more legitimate things to say about the topic

...livelee is great because you can here and feel what he's saying in his voice, commin straight from the heart and simply to get you hyped up

ive never seen wotsee live though so i like him more for his lyrics, flow, and from what i can tell on videos he seems to be givin it...also i know for sure he's just a raver who picked up the mic. he just loves man! simple. on top of that from interviews ive watched/heard/read he seems like a class act

and about bad mc's and their voice, i agree...i HATE my own voice when i hear it played back, but who doesnt...ive been told not to worry, and that i sound find though, but it was hard at first to listen to myself cuz id just cringe at myself...then i heard whizzkid say he does the same so i felt better lol.

I do enjoy a good MC, I also do a bit myself, unforunately I dont rate many hardcore MCs.

I like Odyssey with a freeform set, he is the master at that, and I like Smiley but not too many others.

TBH, Im not over keen on MCing in hardcore, but when i listen to bounce/scouse I much prefer it with an MC, wether thats because they make the track a bit more exciting or wether its because they are better MCs i dont know.

In bounce though, MCs like EM:DMC, Arkie, Monson, Finchy, Kingy, Cover pretty much all blow me away. Good lyrics, good flow and they dont MC over vocals.

I think in bounce there is a song that is really hard to MC to, its called Royal Flush by Club Enforcer and its so hard, mainly due to the fact that the opening part has no kick or bass or anything in it, so you are trying to MC to an actual melody.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hfd7-aeb4oo

I believe that is the link (dont have speakers here so cant hear it) IF it is the right one then its Arkie and Em:dmc b2b on Royal flush and it should start with Arkie saying 'Walking home one friday night, someone jumped out the bush gave me a fright'

I love the tune, love the MCing, love the lyrics and the whole flow. There is alot of MCing in it, but it just shows their skill to me

haha totally agree mate hence why my Mcing voice is nothing like my real voice. And i dont want to seem like i love myself but i do actually like my Mcing voice because it just isnt me and i can actually stomach to listen to myself haha.

ya i change my voice a bit as well (or have started to) for hardcore, but i do other genre's as well, and i REALLY change my voice for those, and i can listen to it all day because it doesnt really sound like me. ive been experimenting though and next live set, im gonna try the snoop dog approch. smooth and silky but you can hear every word(and understand them) and see if that's any good. trouble is doing that style and still having energy in your vocals
